So sehr ich das Konzept vom ÖR gerade was Nachrichten angeht auch wertschätze im Status Quo (auf jeden Fall besser als Nachrichten als Marktware), es ist kein Geheimnis, dass sie sich oft schon in Moralismen und Konservatismus verirrt haben. “Killerspiele” waren das erste was ich persönlich damals als junger Bub mitbekommen hatte.

Das wirklich Traurige ist, dass ich glaube bei sehr vielen Befürwortern ist es nicht mal verlogen, sondern naiv ignorant. Es gäbe schon jetzt einiges was zusätzlich getan werden könnte, um diese Dinge besser einzudämmen, aber es würde Investitionen in Kompetenzen und Personal in der Netzwelt und im “traditionellen” Jugendschutz erfordern (bessere Anlaufstellen, Möglichkeiten zur Anzeige, Aufklärung, Prävention durch bessere psychologische Betreuung).

Das ist für mich auch so ein Knackpunkt: selbst wenn ich persönlich fest daran glauben würde, dass Chatkontrolle wichtiger wäre als die persönlichen Rechte und Sicherheiten, wegen des Kindesmissbrauchs, ich hätte absolut kein Vertrauen, dass das vorhandene Personal die Kompetenz und Resourcen hätte, diese zum Schutz von Kindern richtig zu verwenden. Stattdessen öffnet es nur eine Überwachungsmaßnahme, welche doppelt gefährlich in Zeiten ist in denen Nazisympathisanten in Behörden bereits Material an Rechtsextreme weitergegeben haben.

The short answer: It made me interested in non-commercial alternatives. The fact that the main devs are communists in their own right (even though not necessarily of the same school of thought as myself, but close enough), certainly helped, too.

BTW, just in case you are concerned about that - they are commited to free software principles and the software they develop here is certainly politically agnostic, and they can’t and won’t keep anyone from hosting their own instances with their own focus or forking the software in the worst case.

Well, I am not on Mastodon myself, because twitter-like social media isn’t my cup of tea, but from what I heard, engagement there seems to happen much more on a following-hashtags level than following-users level, so maybe (ab)using hashtags more might do the trick.

It might just also be talked about as “that event everyone got angry about because of false reporting”, or “that event where I argued with some people online, and I realised they made better points than I thought”, or “that event that made me think about what actions would have been better”. There is more than the main narrative, and more than just a single engagement with it if there’s discussion happening.

So, yeah, it will create a lot of hostility, but maybe even a possibility to recontextualise that hostility for some people.

But not to say you don’t have any point at all - it’s true that it can make some things harder to properly talk about, makes it all the more important to oppose the main narrative whenever possible and not feed into it.

Yupp, blame my FOSS-fundamentalism and communism for being here early - but I still took a looooong break after first trying it out for a bit. Am elated it managed to grow a community since then.

Now, I am not the biggest fan of those kinds of actions, because they are indeed exploited heavily by the burgeois press, but let’s talk about attention. I remember there being at least two paint defacings and damaging of private jets here in Germany in 2023 by similar groups. There was next to no press about it - and if you search for it today, it is genuinely hard to find the articles that even mention them, one I found even focusing on the legal questions of insurance, instead of writing about the broader issues at all:

So, you would be surprised - actions that target more “deserving” targets often just… aren’t talked about at all, or very little, small footnotes. This at least starts debates, which cannot be denied.
