CW: Transphobia
She then says her son “might think he can put on makeup and fancy clothing and high heels, and have his p*nis cut off and take estrogen and grow fake b**bs like those. This is so degrading.”
Right-wingers believe that gay and trans people are inherently disgusting and repulsive but also that seeing one or being aware of their existence will instantly turn you gay and/or trans
It all evens out nicely though with the sheer amount of little details everywhere. It all looks convincing at a glance and the game expects you to proceed from setpiece to setpiece quickly
RE6’s environments certainly hold up better in closeups than Halo 4’s which look like blurry barren wastelands
There’s some really fun show-offy stuff in the game like Chris’ opening cutscene where some cutscene props are amazingly hyper-detailed like Piers’ steak and Chris’ glass of vodka. The character models mostly look really nice too
It’s definitely a different look from all the Unreal Engine 3 etc. games from the era. It’s hard to articulate but I almost get a sort of “PS2 game on steroids” feel from these graphics. Something about the grainy and kind of desaturated textures and often flat-looking surfaces.
new VA for Frank
…but why? Fans shat on Capcom massively when they recast him for DR4
Reminds me of how the Onimusha 1 remaster on Steam has a completely redone soundtrack and has some (but not all!) of the Japanese VAs recast, once again showing that contracts are a fuck and that you can’t trust companies to maintain their back catalogue even when they’re trying to
If you want to get into Resident Evil and want to start from the beginning, the HD remaster of the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil 1 is on Steam.
It is often considered one of the greatest remakes of all time and widely thought to surpass the original while preserving everything that made the original great (with the exception of the cheesy FMV cutscenes and dialogue. The remade dialogue is still cheesy but not nearly as funny) unlike the 2/3 remakes that change the games completely.
Technically Resident Evil 0, the HD remaster of which is also on Steam, is the actual beginning of the story in terms of the series’ timeline but I would not recommend it to a newcomer. Consider it advanced studies to come back to later.
The only main games which do not have modern PC ports on current storefronts are 2, 3 and Code Veronica and there are multiple ways to experience each on PC.
I grew up with the PS1 so I tend to just emulate those versions for 2 and 3, which is honestly rather painless with Duckstation, but there are plenty of other ways. You could also emulate the Dreamcast or Gamecube ports of said games, and I believe the GC version has a mod for HD backgrounds. There’s also the Classic Rebirth Patches for the Japanese-only PC ports which can be found floating about online.
As for CV, you have the original Dreamcast version and the Code Veronica X port for PS2 and the later HD ports of CVX for Xbox 360 and PS3. All four can be emulated, though IIRC there’s issues with emulating the 360 version. Also some people are not fans of the changed lighting in the HD remake in general. I just emulate the PS2 version with PCSX2
Are these compatible with the randomisers, Classic Rebirth Patches and other mods people have made over the years or do you still need to track down the old Japanese SourceNext ports?
Edit: Just checked and these are just the old US PC versions made to work with modern systems. That means no mods and that for the best experience you’ll still need to pirate the Japanese PC ports
He has a concerning amount of sharp edges
That’s certainly a thing but on the other hand Japanese media is often less hung up on their male characters being 100% ruggedly masculine
I think this guy is just meant to read as elegant and sophisticated
They’re certainly fabulous, but the Pillar Men are anything but dainty
But it’s still Claire who she develops a relationship with, over the course of the game. I just wanna see more of that
It would’ve probably ended up looking exactly like Leon’s and Sherry’s interactions in 6
Claire just gets side games
I think Code Veronica is a main game even if it doesn’t really get treated that way these days. I still wanna see Capcom try to tackle all the goofy and dated shit in that game
She becomes a cop, and is just kinda the sidekick to an equally boring edglord.
Every Resident Evil main character is a cop, soldier or agent outside of Claire, Billy, Jake and Ethan so her chances to become one were pretty high. Also, Jake Muller is easily the lamest character in the franchise and it’s painful how clearly Capcom thought he was cool
Zombified Adam Barton or whatever he’s called does bear an uncanny resemblance to an (allegedly) non-zombified Joe Biden
I mean, Leon does meet Sherry at the end of the Claire A/Leon B and they leave Raccoon City together. I assume they talked and got to know each other before Sherry was left with the appropriate authorities and that they kept in touch.
Because Leon… Kind of has zero personality. He’s just a walking Twink haircut, that shoots guns.
In the original RE4, he has plenty of personality. He’s a snarky himbo. It’s not a very deep personality, but it’s there. Then in RE6 he’s like a Tom Cruise character or something
So why does RE canon, after 2, continue to sideline Claire’s relationship with Sherry, in favor of Leon???
I don’t think Sherry is even brought up after 2 in any game besides 6. Technically Leon and Claire are at game appearance parity- Leon has 4 and 6, Claire has Code Veronica and Revelations 2
I love that to make sure audiences understood she was in fact the same Sherry from RE2 they made her have the exact same hairstyle as an adult as she did as an 8-year-old
Her personality and status as a super special agent gives me extreme Rebecca Chambers vibes
The tone of the game being so groan-inducingly self-serious makes it difficult for me to enjoy the stupidity. Like the director and writers thought what they made was genuinely awesome and badass.
RE4 (2004) was wonderfully self-aware and over-the-top and then the people behind 5 and 6 didn’t get the ironic bits. It also doesn’t help that 6 doesn’t have a Wesker in it to bring in the cheese
6 also had some questionable stuff involving women, namely the stuff with Helena’s sister and Carla’s weird backstory
For me the highlight of summer are the bright nights and they peak really early. It’s all downhill from here
I think it’s more about “AA” titles and studios rather than one-person indie games
I miss when you could have an entire franchise subsist off ~100,000 sales per entry
To use another horror franchise as an example, Fatal Frame got 5 games, 1 remake, 1 spinoff and 2 remasters despite selling in the 50-200k range for most entries
Can we just start making PS2 games again? You could make a game in less than two years without needing hundreds of people on staff
I’ve been playing through the Onimusha games and it’s crazy to think Capcom made 3 games, 1 soft reboot, 1 fighting game spinoff and 1 GBA spinoff in 6 years. Inbetween 3 and 4 they also made a completely unrelated game
