Endless sky is really fun, and might scratch the same minmax itch as thrive.

Endless Sky is a 2D space trading and combat game similar to the classic Escape Velocity series. Explore other star systems. Earn money by trading, carrying passengers, or completing missions. Use your earnings to buy a better ship or to upgrade the weapons and engines on your current one. Blow up pirates. Take sides in a civil war. Or leave human space behind and hope to find friendly aliens whose culture is more civilized than your own.

One of my favourite games out there - not just open source ones specifically, but like all games included.

  • Can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m gonna read the shit outta whatever comes next (EDC stuff, swords, or the flavour of crayon colors). Also, have you considered a one-time payment platform to go along with patreon? I know it’s not as appealing from a creator perspective compared to known recurring income, but you might get a different audience - can confirm you’d get at least one donation on a kofi or something if you went that route

  • I know nothing about it as a series, but the DQM Joker games were great and I honestly still replay them sometimes. The storylines are pretty bland but the synthesizing monsters mechanic makes them like a more fun Pokémon imo - and your post is the first I’ve heard of birthrights or bloodlines even after playing all the Joker series, so if it has anything about that I missed it (luckily).

If you wanna give it a try I’d probably recommend joker 1, it’s got the best gameplay (although QoL improves in 3) and the single good character in the trilogy (she’s such a massive bitch, truly an icon). 2 is skippable but not bad, and 3 is a real change with some new and fun mechanics but kinda cursed to get it working in English.

ITT: a lot of people reading this to be specifically and only for cis white men, but they’re talking about the power any in-group member has to shut down bigoted shit and that’s what we should be focusing on. In a space where the biggest in-group is black women this post would be about them, but the most common “in-group” (disproportionately so) is white cis men so that’s who they mention. If this is making you feel attacked or targeted then please set aside that part of it and don’t discard the actual message, because this is honestly something everyone should think about.

Anytime you’re accepted somewhere, whether in public or among strangers, you have a lot of social power when it comes to setting the tone of conversation - one loud idiot can make a space feel extremely hostile to an outsider, and if everybody gives a polite laugh instead of speaking up that idiot learns saying things like that is okay and the “outsider” learns they’re not truly welcome. Literally one person who speaks up instead of letting it fly can solve this - the message is to be that person, not to attack anyone in particular.

  • Good luck with the 7800xt, I think that would be pretty ideal if you get a price you’re happy with for it. For the 3060ti I’d probably go with a 7600xt instead personally, unless you want the raytracing performance (probably not useful for older games) or the cuda cores. The 4060ti also has a 16gb vram version iirc, which might come in around the price point you’re hoping for on Black Friday (we can hope, anyway). Either way, good luck!
