Congrats on your booze sobriety! I’m about to take a month off from drinking. I did it last year and really liked the change of pace, so I’ll be doing it again from after Thanksgiving to Christmas.

Speaking of abstention, I’m on my first thc break after four years of daily usage (a day off here and there). The first few days were unpleasant (headaches, irritable, loss of appetite, bad sleep), but that is subsiding. I’m enjoying the clarity. I can speak more succinctly and clearly. I’m less impulsive and have more patience. I guess the biggest surprise is I don’t miss it at much as I thought I would now that I’m a week off. I missed it a lot the first few days.

Otherwise, I’ve been struggling to get back into a workout routine (MWF) but haven’t given up entirely.

Cooking because it’s a pain in the ass to prepare food in small batches (for 1-3 people). Plus clean up It’s basically as much work to make food for 2 people as it is for 8.

But, it is good to have mindful consumer habits. One tip I try to follow when I want to make a superfluous big purchase is, once I decide I want something, I wait 1 day for every $100 it costs. If I still want the item after X days, I might buy it, but often, the novelty is worn off, and I don’t want it anymore. Or, it’s something egregiously expensive and it’ll take 30+ days of thinking about it, and that’s just too much money for a toy

Gun control is a dead end in this country (ask :beto:) and unless you went for complete banning of all guns (which should be “frustrated, by force if necessary” ), there’s really no way to stop some unhinged kid from grabbing Dad’s gun and going wild. I guess significant punishments for unsecured guns would be a deterrent for parents, but a determined person can defeat a cable lock in a few minutes.

I guess proper mental health services and modeling of how to seek out help before they act on it.
