Have you considered that maybe I know something you don’t?
Considered briefly, but as you decided not to share the alleged “apartheid” commandments, I dismissed that consideration as unlikely and yourself as a troll.

oh - my apologies, I forgot that on-board graphics have a dedicated chipset. Also, no idea whether on-board sound would have used CPU power back in the late days of soundcards, as the comment I responded to was claiming… might have been a sound chip for that, too…
I suppose I shouldn’t expect any reading comprehension from the OP…
Because the original flavor is very clearly a list of rules made to enable theocratic control and create a religious apartheid.
I am pretty sure you are over-interpreting here. Theocratic control? Kinda, that’s the whole point of all the “holy books” - I mean whaddya expect? But apartheid is separating people based on (perceived) ethnicity - and the ten commandments do not even attempt to separate people based on religion. They are presented as rules for everyone, no distinction made.
I can’t believe that you managed to present such a stupid take, that I, a lifelong atheist who thinks all religion is stupid, has to defend the commandments… facepalm
*I tried to get a piped link, but it wouldn’t play, probably because youtube is blocking API accesses by third parties now?
I seem to recall the integrated sound wasn’t used either, when I had my sound card in - the audio connectors were going directly into the sound card.
And of course there was a short period of time where a sound card wasn’t required, but would actually improve performance by offloading audio processing to your sound card if you had one
we are at this point in history, but for graphics cards :)
I’ll be the first to admit that there is a huge overlap between evangelicals (who pushed this initiative) and racist/fascist pieces of shit - but the ten commandments in and of themselves have no link to nazi-ism. :p
People who lobby with decision makers at major distributions for their software to be made the de-facto standard, instead of leaving it to the userbase, have a deeply anti-democratic mindset, and that makes them assholes.
“barely any” is neither entirely accurate, nor does it excuse the use of flatpaks.
That is indeed exactly my point. LLMs are just a language-tailored expression of deep-learning, which can be incredibly useful, but should never be confused for any kind of intelligence (i.e. logical conclusions).
I appreciate that you see my point and admit that it makes some sense :)
Example where I think pattern recognition by deep learning can be extremely useful:
But what I am afraid is happening for people who do not see why a very simple algorithm is already AI, but consider LLMs AI, is that they mentally decide to call AI what seems “AGI” / “human-like”. They mistake the patterns of LLMs for a conscious being and that is incredibly dangerous in terms of trusting the answers given by LLMs.
Why do I think they subconsciously imply (self-)awareness / conscience? Because to not consider as (very limited) AI a control mechanism like a simple room thermostat, is viewing it as “too simple” to be AI - which means that a person with such a view makes a qualitative distinction between control laws and “AI”, where a quantitative distinction between “simple AI” and “advanced AI” would be appropriate.
And such a qualitative distinction that elevates a complex word guessing machine to “intelligence”, that can only be made by people who actually believe there’s understanding behind those word predictions.
That’s my take on this.
I’m not blindly hating. I despise the asshole responsible for the choice being taken away from me for many major distros and I wish him the plague for his manipulative approach in getting there.
AI did boom, but people don’t realize the peak happened a year ago.
A simple control algorithm “if temperature > LIMIT turnOffHeater” is AI, albeit an incredibly limited one.
LLMs are not AI. Please don’t parrot marketing bullshit.
The former has an intrinsic understanding about a relationship based in reality, the latter has nothing of the likes.
systemd
and a giant “fuck you” to Lennart Poettering for that. Not for creating an init system option - but for lobbying it into major distributions, instead of letting the users decide what they prefer. May he forever stub his toes on furniture.
If the AI boom is a dud,
Whaddya mean, “if”? Emperor wears no clothes…
beyond root processes, none that I am aware of. Hence I configured all my internet applications and steam to run in a jail :) firejail & bubblewrap come as native packages, unlike the flatpak contents
Yeah, after posting it occurred to me how I would describe the two different ways in which I use the word:
“one way or another”, “that being said” / “further” -> your example “Anyways, I’ll say goodbye now […]”
“despite that” / “nevertheless” -> “Junk food is not healthy, but I’m gonna have a burger anyway[s]”
to which you added a third meaning(?) which, now that I try to describe it in other words, also appears to me as best translated with 3) “one way or another” / “this is happening independently of what is currently being discussed” -> your example “I was going there fore Drag Queen Story Hour anyway”
interesting that etymology of the word explains the origin of both forms - “in any way” vs. “any ways” - which makes sense to my ears, as “in” only fits a singular way “in a way”, not “in a ways”.
Which also means that both are grammatically correct but it makes it understandable how some people would prefer the “anyways” form with the “in” word no longer being used.
…said the little troll after referring the ssuper sspecial sseckrit translation that only it knows… Yeah, suck it, loser.
