“If you want to legislate evil, it’s just not going to happen,” Burchett said. "We need a real revival in this country. Let’s call on our Christian ministers and our people of faith.”

in other words, “thoughts and prayers,” and in other other words, “i don’t want it fixed” because if prayers aren’t stopping a shooting at a christian school, then surprise surprise: prayers and faith and ministers are worse than useless, they pretend to be a solution where they’re actually a hindrance

No, it’s not the same as saying they don’t want it fixed. I think that he is woefully wrong, even negligently wrong. But I don’t need to misconstrue his stance or argument to think that.

i’m sure there are plenty of not-problems that he desperately wants to fix. i know nothing about the guy, but i’m willing to bet he sees gay books in the library as a dire threat to the children which needs to be corrected immediately

You’re still misrepresenting their stance. They don’t believe there’s a “gun problem”. That doesn’t mean they want children to die.

That doesn’t mean they want children to die.

please bro, are you trolling? why are we having to differentiate between “wanting” kids to die and giving absolutely no shits if they do? the result is the same.

you are right about one thing: kids being killed by guns over and over and over is less of a problem to them than CRT or drag queens. honestly i couldn’t care less if they don’t think it’s a problem. IT IS a problem, just like global warming, corrupt scotus, trump’s lies, and anything else they deny the existence of. fuck them.

but again, seriously: if someone’s not willing to do a single goddamn thing to prevent kids being killed by guns, then what the fuck difference does it make whether they “want kids to die” or not?

No, I’m not trolling, and the fact that you think that I am is part of the problem. This will be my last message to you. Whether you like it or not, they do not agree with you on how to stop children from being killed by gun violence. Just because they don’t agree with you or me on how to do it, doesn’t mean they don’t want to do it. This was the entire point that started this convo: they do not agree on the how.

No one wants these massacres, it’s just that no one can agree on the how to stop them. That’s what the original premise was.

To be able to reach a consensus with other people, it’s important to be able to understand their stance and beliefs. Misrepresenting them does nothing but drive a deeper wedge between the two sides.
