The Democratic Party today is the shining exemplar of everything wrong with liberals and liberalism. They are enablers of, and collaborators with, fascism, in exactly the same way the SDP was in Weimar in the late 20s and early 30s. The Democrats are not just complicit, but enthusiastic participants, in pushing political discourse further and further right with every election cycle. The closest thing they have to visionary politics is the apolitical technocratic solutionism of people like Buttigieg, Klobuchar, and Warren - and even something that tame looks good next to the uninspiring milquetoasts they actually run in general elections. Notably, Obama is an exception, because he very effectively tapped the aesthetics of visionary politics during his campaign. But even though this aesthetic WON HIM the election, he ultimately offered very little in office. When their STARTING POSITION is compromise, the far-right inevitably negotiates them into capitulation. And all of this would still be true if the current administration - the only political force on Earth capable of strong-arming Israel into pausing the worst genocide in two decades - weren’t sitting on their hands.
