I’ve just switched back to an iPhone after 10 years on Android, so forgive me if this is an obvious question.

I’m trying to setup a bedtime focus so that I only get notifications from specific apps - doorbell app, etc.

Logically, the way to do this is setup an explicit whitelist for those apps in my Sleep focus, on the assumption that anything else is muted. And this seems to work… for other apps.

But, system sounds still make noise - lock sound, going on charge, etc.

Is there any way to mute those sounds in a Focus? I thought the Silent Mode filter would do that, but that also turns off the notification sounds for the whitelisted apps. This seems a little counterintuitive to me, but it is what it is, I guess.

It seems like this should be an obvious thing to want, but I can’t find any useful help content anywhere that explicitly talks about this. Or it may be that I’m not searching using the right Apple terminology.

So, short version: is there a way to selectively mute system sounds using a Focus, while still allowing selected apps to audibly notify?

    I use automatic Do Not Distrub, and it will silence system notifications, I checked under settings -> focus -> do not distrub, and you can sepcify allowed notifications from apps as well as notifications from calls/texts from specific persons.

    Go to the settings page I noted above, and select Apps and select Add.

    This should solve your issue

      Hmmm - the Do Not Disturb focus still plays system sounds for me. I put it on charge, and the phone bongs to let me know it’s charging.

        I haven’t tested it that much, but if that is the only exception, then shouldn’t it work for you?

            I mean if the battery buzz is the only thibg making noise when the rest of the notifications are not, then perhaps it is enough to deal with.

              Ah, gotcha. Problem is, my wife’s a light sleeper and the battery charging sound tends to wake her. But one of the apps I need to allow is for my work, and the vibrate alert for that is enough to wake me, so a few times a night I might have to wake and read some alerts for work, but I don’t want to disturb my wife when putting the phone back on charge.

                I meant it like it happens just once when you connect it to a charger and then stay silent, I know that if my iPhone 12 Mini is on silent, the phone will vibrate slightly, and if I hold it it won’t make a sound at all.

                  I use a wireless charger so, whenever I have to pick it up and respond to a work alert then put it back, it makes the sound each time.

                    I use wireless chargers, but not by my bed, it isn’t too bad
