2024 is shaping up to be the worst year so far for staff in the gaming industry, Until Dawn developer Supermassive games has informed approximately 150 of its staff that their jobs are at risk with 90 of them being let go.

Supermassive games said in a statement released on Twitter.

”It’s is no secret that the game industry is currently facing significant challenges,” the statement begins, “and unfortunately we aren’t immune to this.” It goes on to say, “After much deliberation and with deep regret,” the company is “entering a period of consultation.” Said consultation will likely “result in the loss of some of our colleagues”.

We wish all affected the staff the best.

    Only the corporate soulless hell holes that pump out the same game again and again are facing challenges. No one wants to buy just the ship part of ac black flag, with worse water physics, a decade later, for more money, UbiSoft. Also fuck the companies pumping out live service slop without any soul in them.

    Just look at the success of helldivers 2, pal world, baldur’s gate 3, genshin, etc., to see that video games can be successful just fine.
