The US could also simply not have backed the 2014 fascist coup in Ukraine to sideline the Minsk agreements against the interests and wishes of Eastern Ukrainians
and the subsequent killings of ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine, like Donbas, DPR, and LPR, by the coup gov for resisting which gave Russia the casus belli to invade.
The only way this was always going to end — the only way the vast majority of conflicts that don’t result in one side completely destroying the other end — is by negotiations which the US and UK have been blocking.

Ukraine could have simply not integrated Nazis into their military and tried to join NATO.
Dear tankie, the guy behind Wagner (Utkin) literally had Nazi tattoos and shit and he was involved in attacking Ukraine alongside Russia. Please don’t pretend that you give two shits about fascism and the world when the only thing you care about is “US bad”.
But he did, and now the best we can hope for is Ukraine being willing to come to the negotiation table with Russia.
The best outcome would be for Russia to withdraw. Something Russia can do tomorrow.
I don’t think that would in fact be the best. A negotiated settlement will likely include funding for rebuilding damaged infrastructure, among other things. A unilateral withdraw would not.
