Was reading about the why is programming.dev federated with us post on DMT and was reading some of the comments like this one which specifically mentions my latest meme. Now, Idgaf what the one guy thinks, but I don’t really want to be the (or a predominant) cause of us getting defedded even more either.

So I was wondering: a) is it possible and b) if it makes sense that we would want to hide those kinds of subs from the main page. If this was already discussed somewhere else, then sorry for rehashing but I couldn’t find it.

I think hiding things from default feed might be possible based on this: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2072

Anyway I don’t know jack shit about the lemmy codebase, settings, etc so no clue if I am even reading this right.

Note: I am not suggesting any particular course of action, only asking what people here think and if it might be worthwhile as sort of an olive branch to other instances while we still have our fun in the various subs. Assuming it even possible. I’m fine with whatever, just thought I’d ask.

You really can’t think of it as censorship. It’s categorical social media. It’s value is what is curated. While there is a market for controversial material it’s small in comparison to good categorized content. The reddit format imo is not best for freespeech.

4chan does a decent job by having content just constantly disappear. And it can even pay the bills.

4chan makes you click on the nsfw categories, warns you about it and then that content just kinda goes away after a while so it can’t be brought up as arguments against the site later.

But it’s harder to navigate so you pay a price for that.
