If it was made by Chinese people who haven’t lived in the West I get it. Dog and cat eating isn’t widely recognized as a racist trope there. It’s like if Hindus had a bigotted slur against beef eaters. If you didn’t know the bigotted intentions, you’d probably just go “yeah… And?”
Plus a lot of Asian society has risen past the poverty point where animals like dogs and cats are eaten on a regular and socially accepted basis in their own societies. There are new generations of people who’s never been exposed to it because they have other food and pet culture is rising, so they may literally just understand this as symbolism and nothing more.
