By ground level, I mean games where the scope is of people on the ground (either an individual PC or party) rather than playing as an abstract nation or political party like in a grand strategy game. So nothing Paradox- or Kremlingames-related (though, Victoria 3 including little things like pop info is a nice touch).

At first, Fallout 4 seemed to fit the bill with its settlement system but it’s still very much within the bounds of capitalism and private property no matter how much I like to think the Minutemen are actually communalists or whatever.

Rimworld might fit the bill? It’s not as top down as paradox games, since each colonist has their own personality and needs. With mods you can have leftist ideals in your colony, and fight against an oppressive empire. The latest expansion probably won’t add too much to your intended playthrough, but the previous three could very much add to it. Biotech arguably less so, unless you want to make superhuman soldiers for the revolution.

Does it have to be within the confines of a single player game? If not maybe join the lemmygrad Minecraft server or play with the hexbear people in No Man’s Sky.

This wasn’t on the lemmygrad MC server, but building rail infrastructure in create on a modded Minecraft server with ~30 players sure had a lot of feel good comradery/shared fruits of labor moments to it.

Unfortunately I have no suggestions in the single player space and have this thread bookmarked in case someone else does.

Most of the larger groups in Eve practice a form of Communism in the sense that all of your basic needs will be provided (Ships, Skill books, Money, drugs, etc) by the alliance. For newbies there are no real strings attached, just go fly and have fun. Larger ships are usually reimbursed only if they are lost on alliance fleet operations, defending your group’s territory or assets. Now this doesn’t mean that everyone is going to agree with a communist Ideology outside of the game, but they do effectively use many communist principles in their organizations, going so far as to borrow certain iconography

        o7 see you in space.

edit: anyone interested look into one of the larger open newbie corps: Brave Newbies, KarmaFleet, Dreddit, Pandemic Horde

Yeah I meant explicitly communist, like hammer and sickle flags. I’ve had a few characters for about a year.

I know there’s a group that is pretty explicitly space Nazis, Absolute Order.
