A lib I work with who has good politics about Palestine (shocking given his politics on basically everything else) had this to say in regards to the treatment of professors and student protesters.

All I could think was “have you been living in a cave?”

This guy actually believes the hype about America; Never mind the BLM protesters who were also arrested and given unacceptable prison sentences, never mind the national guard getting called on protesters, never mind cops killing protesters from time to time, now this is isn’t America.

It’s been America for a long time, I’ve no idea how he hasn’t noticed to be honest.

Reminds me of the lib comments about the anti protesters.

“How do they not see the irony of wrapping themselves in an American flag and then attacking anti war protestors”

How do you not realize that’s not ironic that’s exactly what that flag stands for.

Their questions hit home, and I knew that I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today – my own government…

Libs would probably be appalled by the man who spoke these word.

I think it can take a long time for people to have parts of their ideology shattered. It’s fun to joke about it but I’m sure he would be more open now to hearing about the stuff you’ve mentioned.

Better late than never, I suppose. Although sometimes you can be too late.

I did not grow up in the Great Satan so occasionally I feel like I don’t know enough about the civil rights movement because it obviously wasn’t in our high school curriculum, but then I talk to the average USian about it

I think you may be witnessing first hand someone who is seeing that all they’re told may not be true. It typically leads to despair, and then hopefully a renewed anger. If I’m right I hope they have someone to help direct that anger in the right direction.

    Pun intended

I actually did that just today!

He was talking about some people he knows who were being harmed by basically capitalism; the people he knows were middle men between one major corporation and many other small companies, and one small company got in touch with the corporation, so the giant corpo told the smaller one to find whatever dirt they could on the middle men; long story short, the middle men were being majorly harassed by the FBI. I then brought up cointelpro, which he googled and discovered that what I’d told him was real, and I also mentioned that they were behind Fred Hampton’s murder, and he was telling me that it feels terrible having grown up with this vision of heroism only to have it be shattered.

All I could think was dude, you’re in your mid 30’s, you should know all of this by now. It’s crazy to me that this is considered esoteric information, but then I realize I really only know about this because I started reading history being put up by socialists and communists.

          Good work!

The best thing we can do is treat people like they don’t know and be patient with them.

Unless it’s on here then dunk away
