So because I’m a dumbass i had to look up wtf quiet vacationing is, and what i found doesnt match up with what is implied here.

Can someone spell it out for me, what ‘quiet vacationing’ means here? Like quiet quitting is bare minimum, nothing more. What is quiet vacationing, vacationing without using PTO if you have it or smth?

If I had to guess, it’s taking PTO without asking first since in most places, there’s technically no rule that you need to ask for permission, just that you notify them ahead of time

I think that “quiet vacationing” is just like, going on vacation without taking PTO. Don’t tell anybody, don’t ask for PTO, just don’t do any work and fuck off to Bali for a week or something. Only works for remote workers of a specific email job class.

It means you take time to treat yo self during work hours, when you would otherwise use PTO and be off the clock. Obviously it can only be done if you work remotely, but you just stay signed in, looking active, but doing whatever else. You’d have to be prepared to jump back on at a moments notice though. Easy to do if you’re just milling around at home.

My first thought from the headline though was being scheduled to remote work, say for Thurs/Fri, but you’re actually away on vacation and didn’t mention it. A bit riskier since the longer your tether is from your workstation the harder it is to look active and/or jump on if needed.
