They want to make sure that the next jury thinks twice about convicting. Truly chilling and completely unsurprising after Trump has been stoking them with lies every day.

This was America’s first and closest foray into fascist takeover, the same exact way that other democracies have fallen this last century or longer.

Just because it was really dumb this time, and in the end the guilty party was actually found guilty by the law, we are nowhere close to out of danger on this front.

Trump will be dead in a few short years and we’re all going to stop talking about him, this is assured, and in that huge, gaping power vacuum with millions of followers ripe for the plucking, they’re going to be coerced by some new figure and led to the exact same ideas about burning the country to the ground just so they have a leader who “hurts the right people.” And this new leader of the vulnerable masses might not be so dumb or so wildly delusional and may actually succeed at the same exact plan.

Get more involved in your local politics people, state, county, city and community elections are what prop up fascists in the upper reaches. Know who is actually representing you.

He was not found guilty of an attempted fascist takeover. This is the falsified business records case. It’s the most trivial case against him. Going after the jurors who convicted him in this case is going to be chilling on the juries for the cases that matter so much more.

I have basic amenities, I have a home, I have people who love me and would miss me, but what I don’t have in life is satisfaction that I’ve done the right thing and contributed more to society than I took away.

Convicting Trump every single opportunity would give me the greatest joy I could ever achieve. Every rude phone call or thrown brick would fill me with happiness that I’ve wounded the great dying beast that we have been battling for hundreds of years in this nation.

I could hear some guys in my neighborhood outside yesterday talking about how this won’t effect the election. One of them yelled out “Well at least the republicans are the ones with the guns!” Everyone just kinda got quiet and looked at him like he was an idiot.

Remember he’s not the only dangerous one. Every vote counts, and all of them are voting red.

I worked with a guy who was appalled that I was buying go fast parts for my car instead of stocking up on guns and ammo for the upcoming war. He also had his neighborhood mapped out as to who are the democrats so he knows who to go after first. I asked him if he thought democrats don’t have guns too and he just stared at me. After a bit he just changed the subject to a racist rant about rap music.

For the longest time I thought this was solely a matter of education; but these days, I’m beginning to think such right-wing extremism is also a matter of mental illness.

Things like poor parenting, brain injuries from football, lead exposure from guns and motorsports, substance abuse, shitty diets, etc. – all culminate in a banner of people who are… Not of sound mind.

Saying this as a former rural Appalachian Republican from decades ago.

Edit: added “solely” for some clarification.

I agree that a lot is mental illness but I think it’s more education. They fall for the lies and get in line and do what they’re told to do by sources like fox “news”. It’s scary how it’s changed, I had Republican friends that we could all hang out and even discuss politics with no problems. Now, we don’t talk at all, there is no discussion. I am the enemy and I don’t even care about politics, just be a good human. I don’t think you can be a good human and support the Republicans at this time, it’s gone off the rails.

You’re likely right that education is still the prevailing issue, but I think we need to get more specific on what kind of education people receive in terms of safeguarding against false rhetoric. Drilling in the logical fallacies, teaching ethics, and even teaching common propaganda techniques so you can identify them. We need to step back and ask ourselves how we managed to escape the rabbit hole when others could not.

The echo-chambers have become so ironclad that it’s so difficult to pierce through and drag someone out.

This is a great indicator that free will isn’t what we think. I’ve been chatting to maga family about free will through that “how we managed to escape the rabbit hole” lens. There’s often a lot of reasons we have different opinions and tracing the distributed causality is pretty fun because you can avoid the propoganda talking points but still make progress. I think it helps them question information or to be more guarded instead of immediately parroting fox news lines.

The ones that are out here tend to be pretty white around the head and neck, usually have a bright splash of red starting at the shoulders and moving down the back. I know mine can be big fuckers, some are pushing 300lbs. I have to get the tractor for those.

Lucky they aren’t very fast, but you really got to carefully, they tend to run in packs.

Then they get a judge like Cannon.

The problem is that the system also is of two minds on whether he’s above the law. Shit’s broken, and not because they can’t fix it. If this happened in e.g. Germany, Trump would already be behind bars (long before he’d have run for pres in the first place), and GSG9 would be looking for people terrorizing juries.

For jurors, seeing the defendant and witnesses live in person is part of the process. They assess body language as well as other things. Video link is helpful as a back up in certaain cases, eg for kids or victims of sexual assault who may be uncomfortable being in the room with their alleged attacker.

Isn’t it wild that it’s even considered dangerous to be a juror for an ex president. Yet some of his non violent followers still dont appreciate how damaging he is for democracy.

At what point does this sort of thing stop being politics and start being organized crime? So now I halfway-hope the vigilantes that try to do this will end up facing criminal charges for it

But, I also halfway-expect cops and prosecutors to look the other way if the victims of this kind of crime ends up being the kind of people they’d be disproportionately policing and convicting anyhow
