I wanted to ask this question to Americans, do you think it is ok for people who don’t have a stake in USA future to discuss USA events and politics?
I personally think it should be encouraged, but I had met a very small minority of people who think it’s not ok.
What do you think?
Right, we currently have a conservative majority in the Riksdag (elected assembly) who has formed a conservative “regering”.
So here are some political bews from Sweden:
The ruling parties have suggested getting rid of the specific tax on air travel, this has caused environmental scientists, the green party and others as it will increase airtravel and increase the ammount of CO2 released. The conservatives who are in power are doing this to enable working together with Sverigedemokraterna, the most right wing party with seats in the Riksdag, they have even more seats than the main conservative party, Moderaterna, and have a history rooted in Nazism. SD grew hugely during the European migrant crisis when they were the only ones talking about reducing migration to Sweden.
The Regering is working on the autumn budget, so soon we will have the traditional budget walk from the Regering building to the Riksdag, where the budget proposal is carried to the Riskdag to be voted on by all parties, this is where the conservatives needs the support of the SD.
This is not really a political news story, but currently the biggest environmental scandal in Sweden is currently up for trial, Think Pink, a company dealing with heavy trash (mainly from construction sites) has been shown to be a complete fraud, during more than a decade the company marketed themselves agressively with low prices to deal with trash, didn’t do any work needed and just built unauthorized dumps, several near water wells and nature reserves, contaminating them with a lot of bad stuff, like mercury, lead and arsenic. The trial started yesterday and will likely take a hundred days to complete, but will obviously be appealed to the next highest court, regardless of the outcome.
