I saw the apology statement and the original tweet but I’m genuinely confused about what people are mad about?
Especially mad enough to make a fork of the Godot engine?
I did watch This video from Games From Scratch but he barely gives any actual information about what people are mad about. The most information I got is that a joke tweet was made and a non-affiliated moderator went a little overboard.
What am I missing here? What’s got everyone so upset?
An unofficial discord admin told some discriminatory people to go fuck themselves for whining about an inclusive statement made by Godot engine.
I’m always amazed how the fuck your feelings crowd have so many feelings and how loud they are about them.
Reactionaries project their toxicity onto everything and everyone who doesn’t conform to their nonsense.
Want you to live by rules and have none themselves is the most typical conservative quality ever. It’s fuck YOUR feelings, not theirs.
It’s because they think only other people’s feelings should get fucked, not their own.
Oh, so Godot is even more based now? That’s cool to know. Toxic bigots don’t belong in any community; deplatform and shame the fuck out of them.
Is based good or bad? What does that even mean?
It means something like rational or good from the point of view of the person saying “based”. Or like “based in reality”.
Person 1: “My partner broke up with me and I am sad about it but the relationship wasn’t going anywhere and I think it is better that way. I should work on myself before I can be with someone”
Person2: "that is incredibly based. "
That’s not what based means here. “Admirable; praiseworthy, especially if the thing that is considered “praiseworthy” is unpopular or controversial.”
It means good
Good in the moral sense, like “they’re a good person” not “that tastes good.”
It means “principled”. We already had a word for it.
Is that it? That’s pretty much everything I gathered from it too.
Why is anyone making a big deal of that???
The Xananax stuff made me think “wait a minute here, something’s not right” since they are part of the Godot community.
In the end it looks like more of the most toxic shitters in existence arguing with one another on Twitter.
I believe some of the are just anti woke. But in the storm people were blocked for posting criticism about the engine that led to more backlash
It’s more than some unofficial mod in discord. The Xitter Community Manager apparently had no chill with any type of criticism about their politically-motivated posted about being “woke” (in ref to someone xitting about studios being woke for using prebuilt game engines). Unhappy members of the Godot community spoke out (politely mind you) that they’d rather see Godot focus on fixing bugs, rather than wasting resources being political. The CM’s response was to lay the ban hammer (both on Xitter and on GitHub) and block dissenting views. That’s round about when the unofficial mod decided to step in and white knight for the CM using their unofficial discord server.
In the end, it looks like the Godot Foundation is all in protecting their CM, and released a statement only apologizing for banning people who were not a part of the conversation; offering a Google form as a means to get unbanned.
Why is it a big deal? Depends on which side you believe is right or wrong:
On the CM’s side, it’s probably (and this is solely my opinion) about feeling empowered by their position to promote their sociopolitical agenda. For the Godot foundation, it seems they agree with their CM; or maybe they are too proud to admit fault.
For the devs, they just want to have a platform to build their games, and are frustrated by what they perceive is a lack of support (and documentation) from the engine devs. They don’t want to be involved in any sociopolitical argument, and feel that Godot shouldn’t either.
Personally, I feel the CM acted wholly unprofessional and should be fired. Not because they wanted to promote inclusivity with their remarks about being “woke”, but instead by their blanket bans for any hint of criticism. It shows a severe lack of emotional maturity and inability to function in a society. They are no better than those they fight against (ie bigots).
The Godot Foundation should be ashamed of their lack of response, and not calling out the CM for their banpage. They are shitting all over the very people that want to help them grow and become successful. In this case, I haven’t seen many (if any) devs being assholes, and yet Godot is allowing them to be mistreated.
Again, all of the above is my understanding and opinion of the matter. I am in no way affiliated with Godot, the CM, or any of the devs.
It’s not political to be inclusive. People just use that as a way to passively promote their bigotry.
It’s not the inclusivity that’s political, nor the problem. It’s the banning/silencing people who have any modicum of dissent.
Reading the room is a lost art it seems.
You’re free to spew whatever shit you please. You’re also free to experience the consequences of the shit you spew.
I’m sorry you don’t understand how this basic idea works.
paradox of tolerance
10 people are all in a house, cooking a great stew, mixing different cuisines and spices. It’s fragrant, tasty and filling. An 11th person comes in, drops his pants and starts pissing right into the stew.
Your stance is that everyone should calmly wait for him to finish pissing, politely taste the piss stew, comment on how welcome his piss is, and patiently listen to him ranting about why piss stew is the only stew that should be allowed.
Yeah, that’s fucking bonkers mate. Someone pisses in your stew, you toss them the fuck out of the house.
You’re absolutely right; if that’s what was happening. And anybody who would take a piss in the stew should be kicked the fuck out immediately. I agree with you.
What I see being glossed over about my post is that I’m criticizing how developers were banned for asking questions or making non-“piss in the stew” statements. Someone made a statement that they’d prefer to see development progress from Godot and not sociopolitical ideology.
Now, while I agree that both are not mutually exclusive (given it’s a Xitter Community Manager and not a developer (afaik)), I do not feel it was ban worthy. But I am open to being corrected if someone could explain to me why it’s bad?
Look, I’m not perfect, and I grew up surrounded by a lot of bias, racism, and bigotry. I strive to overcome those chains, and be as good a human bean as I can be. I have zero issue with how people want to live their lives (as far as LGBTQ+ goes especially). All that to say that I am not trolling here. I genuinely would like someone to explain to me why my comments are being taken so negatively in this conversation.
That’s what bigots say when things aren’t going their way, they are absolutely also the first ones to spread their own “sociopolitical ideology” (read: toxic bigotry) on unrelated things
Also a lot of your comments here are eerily similar to the transphobic racists on Xitter that I personally saw when I found myself in one of their toxic AF echo chambers
We’ll thank you for letting me know that is how it’s coming across. If it makes any difference, it’s not my intention or desire. I will revise my approach.
Oh. Good.
And godot apologized for it?
Yes, saying it they don’t represent them and they have an official discord server.
