For those who haven’t heard yet: a radio show booked an Australian “Gender Critical” :up-yours-woke-moralists: man to argue against trans rights. But people checked his Twitter likes and they were half GC and half… trans porn. : YEARS worth of it. So he cancelled his appearance and deleted his account 😂 :thonk-trans:

This reminds me of the legions of 4ch!n incels that constantly post Groypers about wanting to exterminate trans people in death camps that also constantly jack off to what they call “futas.” :pathetic:

I think I remember years ago seeing a comment somewhere that perfectly descriped this behavior (probably :reddit-logo:):

It came from a story of a pastor or something that was famous for hating gay people and was later caught having gay sex at an airport or something. Basically the reason people that are obsessed with hating a group like gay people is because they are constantly thinking about gay sex. They can’t get it out of their heads because it makes them horny but they are taught to hate it so they are constantly :frothingfash: about it and sound like lunatics.

No surprise that people that are constantly hating trans people are because they can’t stop thinking about how hot they are.

just a reminder that liberals use stories like this to build a softer kind of bigotry where queer people are actually responsible for their own oppression, as all the bigots are secretly queer. on the contrary, there are plenty of cishet bigots that are not queer and the very structure of society is anti-queer.

The most homophobic person I know in my biological family talks about gay people more than most gay people talk about gay people. He’s also obsessed with a few “based” male celebrities to the point where one time I wondered out loud if he had a crush on one of them and he basically made a combination of these two faces while literally screaming with rage: :frothingfash: :wojak-nooo:

Also, he is a giant Gambo fan, brags about watching it while his small children are playing with toys on the carpet because they were supposedly so “mature for their age and can handle it like grown-ass men,”, and yet he was livid about this one gay blowjob that apparently happened one time (I assume during Gambo, but he didn’t specify and I quit Gambo long ago) and how his kids should never see something like that. :what-the-hell:

Granted not my family… but I would have fun bringing up every time he talks about gay people something like “you seem to think about gayness a lot, have you ever thought about that?”

I have family members with subtly racist/bigoted views that they don’t see as such. I am getting less and less motivated to bite my tongue at family gatherings when they say something trashy. One night my dad showed his ass by defending the English Monarchy and Christopher Columbus because the atrocities they did were in the past when they were considered “normal” and you can’t criticize them for that. :brainworms: Because you know, morality has only existed for a couple hundred years now.

I remember when a pedo apologist said that one of his ancestors hundreds of years ago married his wife when he was in his 30s and his wife was 14, and that if I called that pedophilia, then I’m calling that ancestor of his a pedophile.

Yeah if you have anything close to an official twitter acc that should be used for boring business stuff only.

Many older 45+ people have a view of the internet as this not-real thing where their actions have no consequences. Also that it’s so large and unwieldy that nobody will ever stumble across your skeletons because finding them is too difficult etc etc.

It’s behaviour from people who are mostly clueless about the internet.

Our older internet terminology reinforced this “IRL” implies that the opposite (online) is not-real. I’ve always pushed back against IRL as a term because it’s really not healthy to view the internet as pretend or that actions and relationships and activities here have no consequences.

“It’s the internet” “welcome to the internet” and related statements were pretty much always used to excuse bigots and harassment, too.

Roughly 20 years ago they were pushing the “Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory” as a thought terminating cliche to permit “ironic” nazis to escape consequences. :so-true:

back in the day your government name wasn’t associated with your online handle like that. it was very much not real a lot of the time because you could just walk away or make a new account. nobody knows you’re a dog on the internet, after all.

racism, sexism, etc would still be felt as real by the people subjected to it even if you were passively not indicating your gender or minority status of course, but again it used to be possible to just leave or you could even get away with flaming right back in ways that are much less possible today, especially if your job is publicly online.

Yeah but a name is a name.

It doesn’t change the fact that everything here has always had real world consequences, and that the relationships and emotions people feel engaging with other people online are all real. It’s never been make believe and the concept that it was all fake is what made people apathetic to all the most awful shit that was left to fester on it.

Even now this notion of IRL vs fake is one of the barriers that keeps the space from being properly regulated, it keeps shitholes like 4chan protected.

Trans women are not extra sexy and taboo if being trans is not treated as something else. If the women are just women who are trans, it’s not as hot. Also if trans women are accepted, chasers will be have more trouble finding their targets.

GC men are just trying to keep their fetish going.

I don’t have any evidence, but I have suspected that a very, very tiny group of people was ACTUALLY whining about “our one and only femboy got got” - I think this angle was mostly being shared by people pretending to be that type of person, in order to be transphobic.
