I think I saw a “controversial” ranking coming, which would probably mean these bots would just end up bringing attention to what they are down voting

    Nay,

I like seeing how many people get upset by certain posts, I browse by new and local.

Its small enough I can read and see every post. It also reminds people that there are folks out there ready to fuck you over if you post personal stuff. Call it free awareness.

Personally not touching the button at all I dont really give a fuck about the imaginary points. Can check the upvotes and the amount of comments to get a feel for interesting posts.

Same. Would be cool if there were also individual users settings (e.g. instance default on/off but user could choose to ignore for their posts/comments) but such is life.

Maybe in a future lemmy update

    Yay

If and when controversial sorting comes that might change. Votes don’t mean much here when anyone can vote. Anyone can go create 100 accounts on sh.itjust.works (People already have dozens of accounts there for vote manipulation) , pop in their login tokens into a script and mass downvote anything they want. I can write a script to do it myself if anyone wants an example.

Do people even know what “brigading” means anymore? People downvoting and commenting in disagreement are not necessarily brigading. Trolls going to a community they disagree with to troll are not necessarily brigaders.

Brigading is the organised, planned and coordinated effort of a group of people mass downvoting and spamming a community at the same time. 4Chan used to do it to reddit all the time. Subs used to do it to other subs where they made posts linking to other posts with the instruction of downvoting them or spamming them.

I don’t think that’s happening here… Most people on lemmy want nothing to do with you guys, that’s why you got defederated. It’s just what happens when you leave your little save spaces and go to a medium where most don’t share your views, ideas and actions…

So you agree you’re a troll? You’re only here to shit on exploding heads users

Me personally? No, I’m not a troll. But obviously there are people who are only here to troll. Doesn’t necessarily make them brigaders though…

You’re only here to shit on exploding heads users

          Not true.

I mostly lurk to stay up to date on what the right leaning people are up to. Occasionally I will provide my personal views on things.

And yes, when I see opinions such as “removed**removeds should be lined up and shot, no matter the context…” I will shit on their opinions because their opinion is, as far as I’m concerned, shit…

And if you have a problem with that opinion of mine then go ahead and and shit on my opinion, after all, is that not your right? Surely you don’t want to tell me how I’m allowed to voice my opinions.

    yea

downvotes are abused by bots or people

if people don’t like a post, they often “downvote” by withholding an upvote and “ratioing” the post with more comments than upvotes

edit: you could still have a downvote that doesn’t affect the score, if you want to do it that way. score could collect only the upvotes, or they could be separate tallies I mean.
