I got permission to share one of my kids’ in-school assessments from when they were also 9 years old!
Within the classroom, ████████ is comfortable answering questions and contributing to discussions but may opt out of activities with which ███ is unfamiliar and ███ does not feel are necessary for academic growth such as partner games or activities. This tendency has also been noted in the gymnasium, where uncertainty about rules or procedures can cause ████████ to prefer to sit out.
At present, we are allowing ████████ to observe and learn activities as above in the classroom and the gym, to ease ███ apprehension and allow ███ to gather the information required to have ███ participate. In one instance in the classroom, ███ had initially opted out of an activity, but then saw how it worked, and the fun others were having and said “I think I want to try now” and joined in with a safe adult as a partner first, then a peer. Similarly, we had a gym occurrence that mirrored the classroom example and we seem to gain greater participation from ████████ through the following strategies:

- watch to see if ███ shows any interest
- ask ███ if ███ would like to try (with you or another safe adult)
- this allows for guidance and practice of the skills in a safe environment if desired
- once ███ is comfortable and confident, see if ███ will attempt this new task with a supportive classmate or peer

- ███ has an expansive and diverse vocabulary compared to ███ peers

Sis, you got no idea how messed up it was. How good you were at masking was the defining characteristic that determined if you were gonna be in the “gifted kids group” or the “r-worded kids class”.
Autism was barely even recognized as a legitimate diagnosis at the time, and it was largely limited to, “Haha, like Rain Man! Very funny!” levels of understanding. Which track you landed in was largely vibes-based, and I’m forever grateful I was adept enough at scripting my responses at the time to make me seem normal.
Also, us Big Smart Boys got a break every day to go read in the library, where I learned how to install a pirated version of SimCity on the cataloguing computer. That was neat.

Kid me used to go around talking about how “pride wasn’t a sin,” etc. though, or rather I have always had- either an ego or the ambition to meet those levels of ego (and faking it till I make it sorta nonsense). Back at this age, not sure if I was doing the “pride wasn’t a sin” bit yet (I think so?) but I was definitely claiming I “inherited my parents’ anger/pride” and doing highly interesting things like hissing at people at that age (the hissing ended sometime soon after I feel? Hell if I know. More self-awareness developed over time)

It would’ve been Raichu (simply because Raichu was my first Pokemans card and it imprinted on me).
Nowadays it would either be a Sobble (peak and beloved, my child Sobble- though then I’d never want to evolve) or Gardevoir, Hatterene, Primarina, or Lilligant (all have their own extreme appeal to being). If I were able to continue business as usual despite being a seal-mermaid I would totes be a Primarina tbh

OCR is “optical character recognition”. You give a photo of text (like the ones that you posted) to a computer program, and it prints out the text.
If you’re on Linux, a good OCR program is Tesseract. I’ve personally used it to turn scans of old manuals into searchable PDFs, but it also can just print out the recognized text as plain text.
