Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!
Playing Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout as my primary game. Not much to add here.
Started (and finished) Until Dawn. It has been in my library for ages.
A bit scary for my taste, but enjoyed the game overall. Didn’t know it had such a big cast. Wanted to go back and play through multiple times more, one by keeping everyone alive, and one by letting everyone die and then get the Platinum, but when I tried I realised you can’t skip the cut scenes or any conversations, even if you have seen them before. Not going to sit through all those again, will just watch different endings on YouTube.
This also confirmed for me that I don’t like horror, so not going to play any other Supermassive games.
Keeping with the theme of this year, started another game from very back of my backlog Apotheon, it’s an old side scrolling Greek RPG from 2014 or so.
Visuals are very nice, like those pot paintings (whatever they are called), black characters on yellow (and other coloured) backdrop. I am making it sound simple, but they are very detailed. Controls take a bit getting used to, but it’s fun when you get the hang of it.
Also, downloaded Marvel Rivals, some friends are interested in trying it out. Let’s see how long this lasts.
What about all of you? What have you been playing?
I want to start 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Had so much fun with Unicorn Overlord this year, curious about my next game from Vanilla Ware. Every game of them was just good i have played in the past.
13 Sentinels is a masterpiece, you’re in for a real treat, but don’t look up anything about the story until you’ve played thru the whole game
13 Sentinels is their most unique game.
Strange mix of genres (point-and-click adventure mixed with… tower defense?!) but if you enjoy story-heavy games it’s an absolutely must-play. But stay away from spoilers, going “what the hell is going on” while trying to piece together the story is part of the experience. 😆
Also, while the tower defense segments are fairly simple (in particular compared to Unicorn Overlord) I did enjoy them quite a bit, replayed a bunch of stages multiple times and grinded all my characters to really high levels.
Oh, and the OST is amazing.
Playing Qualia: The Path of Promise!
Still progressing slowly, have not been in a gaming mood. But one thing I realized that putting a kinetic VN like this one on “Auto” works really well as a distraction when I’m cycling at the gym, so this should help speeding up progress. 😆
I also learned that several games that should work well with a single Joycon work like VNs don’t. 🙁 So I bought one of these small controllers from 8bitdo to use on these situations, let’s how it works.
Playing Vampire Survivors!
Still playing this as a side-game, still unlocking more weapons/stages/characters.
That controller looks very uncomfortable to use. Doesn’t your had feel cramped? Or are you using it with just one hand?
Or are you using it with just one hand?
Yup, mostly for things I can play with one hand like VNs. Might also be OK for quick sessions “on the go” or for younger kids like my nieces as well.
Ah, cool.
So, I’ve started the Witcher 3 last week and will continue playing. I just arrived on the second map - Velen or something like that.
It’s certainly not the generational masterpiece everyone made it out to be. In fact it is really janky. Luckily, it’s just the kind of jank I was raised on and enjoy - games like Gothic and Risen.
My two biggest gripes are combat and dialogues. Combat just doesn’t feel good, in fact I never played Witcher 3 until now because the combat in Witcher 2 was that bad. Luckily, the open world structure lends itself more to the Witcher power fantasy of optimizing combat out of the game by over-prepping (mind you, I’ve played both games on the hardest difficulty). As for dialogues, what’s there is actually good. It’s just that almost nobody talkes to you.
In conclusion, it’s fun. There are no deal breakers, yet judging by the first area, it does not surpass its inspiration. However, I’m expecting things to get much more interesting later on since everyone was going on about the quality of the side quests. I did everything and so far they were quite basic.
Well, it’s an old game. I enjoyed the game thoroughly, though I do agree that the game feels a bit over hyped to me. Which is not to say that it isn’t great. But it didn’t feel like as big of a leap as everyone made it seem.
As for side quests, yeah, while most of side content is just kill this or bring that, there are some pretty good side-quests in there.
Alan Wake.
The first one? How are you liking it? It’s still in my backlog.
