Or do you have a genuine reason that makes them advantageous?

    I have an SUV because:

    • my mother in law has mobility issues and struggles to get in/out of a saloon.
    • my wife has neck issues and the higher driving position is better for her
    • I like it (ok, that could make me an arsehole)

Truth is that mine (BMW X1) is at most 5cm bigger in any dimension, if at all, than the car on which it is based (Mini Cooper). The extra size is an optical illusion.

Would it be correct to sum up your post as: my family is so handicapped they can only drives SUVs, i am an asshole and need to talk about my COMPACT SUV because people in my life do not talk about it enough?

That’s similar to why I hav an SUV. My dad has mobility issues and has a scooter to help him get around. The SUV is higher off the ground making it easier to get in and out while the larger cargo space can hold the scooter and anything else (groceries, luggage, etc).

Also - the mass and form of an SUV makes them a good option in terms of safety. Smaller vehicles get crunched like pop cans, and trucks get sandwiched by their own bed if you hit a solid object.

Making yourself safer by making everyone else less safe still seems like an asshole move to me?

Bumper height should have been regulated on city roads, then we wouldn’t have gotten this escalation. Work truck, sure. If you need one, you need one. But people who drive a massive gas guzzler to park it at the office and go up the elevator to work?

When it comes to buying a car, I’m going to buy whatever makes me the safest on the road. I do not care if it makes other less safe, I value my life more than almost anybody else’s. Why would I willingly choose a car more likely to cause my consciousness to cease if I get into a car crash? That’s just foolish.

Sure, but not caring that you are the problem makes you an asshole, right? That was the original question. So the point stands.

If choosing vehicles based on the safety of me and my close ones makes me an asshole, then I’ll gladly accept that title. Like I said earlier, you’d be a fool not to.

Yeah time to buy a rifle and shoot you in the head because it makes everyone that is not an asshole and you safer…ever considered that?

“I do not care if it makes other less safe”

So after you have stated that you are literally an anti social sociopath you ask how permanently removing you from societly would be good for everyone else. Ok. I put this as blunt as possible so it is easy to understand, but obviously you need coloured pictures and a helper?

Thanks for clarifying, that previous comment was difficult to decipher. Yeah I don’t know about all of that though, I don’t think that caring more about myself than strangers makes me an “anti social sociopath”. If there were two buttons in front of me, one that said “stay alive” and the other “cause a random person to die”, and I was required to press one, idk man. I think I would probably press the “stay alive” button. Which would you press?

Sometimes I find that drawing a picture is the best way to visualize a concept. I have attached a drawing to this comment in order to help you understand - if you continue to make your comments difficult to understand then I’d appreciate it if you’d do the same.

Actually no. SUVs are great at murdering the drivers of other cars, they do not in fact protect you any better. Its just a big blow up dick for assholes.

Not sure that makes any difference really. As I said, the actually difference between my (admittedly mini) SUV and its corresponding saloon/hatchback is a few cm at most. Also, they all meet the same safety standards.

The difference between a proper car (BMW, Renault, etc) and a crap one (Dacia, Hyundai, etc) will make more difference than whether it is an SUV or a saloon. In either case, if the car was is newer than ~2000 it will be infinitely safer than what our parents shoved us into anyway.
