A confrontational legislative hearing Monday — with a witness calling a state senator a fascist and lawmakers battling over whether the state should put a bounty on undocumented immigrants — set the tone for this year’s debate on immigration and the state’s role in border security.

I’ve been wondering about that: the American Gestapo ICE is roaming around and arresting lots of people. I understand some of those arrests result from random ID checks. But a lot of them is ICE officers raiding houses and “places of interest” where the migrants are supposed to be hiding, and the officers seem to know exactly where to go.

This started almost immediately after the Orange Utan gave the order, and they sure were able to nab a lot of people right off the bat.

Which raises the question: how did they know where to go get the undocumented migrants? Did they have lists of suspects and addresses before Trump was sworn in? And more importantly, if they did, who are the disgusting rotters who turned them in?

They’re taking people who were listed, but not in deportation proceedings. There’s a bunch of people who did stuff like overstay a visa, apply for residency, get denied, but were left alone because they don’t have a criminal record. We always knew where they were, the government was just focused on criminals. So now they’re really easy targets for agents told to meet a quota of arrests.

      That’s not what’s happening, yet.

      https://apnews.com/article/immigration-trump-border-security-enforcement-ice-cb40a6a7e2d94582aa0774be47a8ab36

A dozen officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement gathered before dawn Monday in a Maryland parking lot, then fanned out to the Washington suburbs to find their targets: someone wanted in El Salvador for homicide, a person convicted of armed robbery, a migrant found guilty of possessing child sexual abuse material and another with drug and gun convictions. All were in the country illegally.

It’s a little fucking alarming the government knew about such people and hadn’t acted already. WTH?!

some of those arrests result from random ID checks

Not quite. The Biden admin wouldn’t let ICE arrest any illegals they found as a result of a targeted search, as described above. Now they can.

So for now, I’m fine with this. Even the “collaterals” in this case were due for arrest or deportation.

Of those “collaterals,” one had an aggravated theft conviction. Another had already been deported once, and two others had final orders of removal.

Problem being, they’ll run out of legit targets before the electorate runs out of hate. That’s when the concentration camps really get rolling.

You bring up the one example of them going after criminals with multiple news articles in the last week about them going after people with no records? NPR had stories this morning about people with legal status being taken by ICE.

Get this bad faith bullshit out of here.

Facts are now “bad faith”. Is that like “alternative facts”?

Only thing I’ve seen is the school that turned the USSS away thinking they were ICE. (And we still haven’t heard why they were there in the first place, weird in itself.)

Many articles about the Navajo Nation being alarmed about “reports” of ICE sweeping members up. Well FFS, did they or didn’t they?! Not a single article confirming this, just “reports” that “maybe”.

Scanned NPR.com just now. Only 1 item related to immigration: How districts are responding after Trump cleared the way for immigration arrests at schools

Well? Just because a story is plausible and what you expect does not equal reality. Wait a minute? Are you a conservative?

No. What you’re doing is selecting facts that give a biased viewpoint. Just like when Fox News shows 9 crimes by minorities for every crime by a white person, even though there are more white criminals.

Even now you deny the existence of things that we’ve all seen on Lemmy.
