Found this today, included features that I saw:
- Redirecting from YouTube if the video is also found on PeerTube
- Redirecting to your own instance, when clicking on a video link for a PeerTube video on another instance
Very useful, especially considering you will always get a link to your own instance when using the share function, which isn’t ideal for anyone not on your instance.
If you know any other cool tools and addons for PeerTube, feel free to add them here.
hmm I cant seem to trigger it. I set up my preferences to redirect to my peertube instance, then went to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKdy45ji4Vs , nothing was detected. Am I doing something wrong?
Back at my own PC again and yupp, seems like this video is called differently in the Fediverse version:
My spontaneous guess is that maybe there were some algorithm-optimisation shenanigans going on on YT, changing the title, that didn’t translate back to PeerTube. Unfortunately, the add-on only seems to go by title (which also is a bit of a risk, might open up the door for malicious redirecting).
Unfortunately I’m quite busy atm and only on my phone - but as a quick guess: Maybe the video isn’t called exactly the same on both or something like that? I also had it not work, when the connection to my peertube instance was temporarily bad.
