Explanation: At the same time that US President Ronald Reagan was ramping up the ‘war on drugs’, he was also directing the CIA to assist Nicaraguan anti-communist death squads with funding. Unfortunately, since big mean Congress had forbade Reagan from funding his favorite murderers directly, the CIA had to use ‘backchannels’ to acquire the necessary off-the-books money - some of it by dealing arms to the Islamic Republic of Iran, and some by helping those death squads sell cocaine in the US.
Every once in a while I like to refresh my memory of the events with this little diddy:
I believe it’s a fairly accurate, if condensed, version
I fucking love this movie
Haha! I threw that shit before I even came in the room.
Meanwhile:
Definitely fuck the Sacklers, but I’m not sure I understand what the part about being FDA approved is supposed to mean. Is it saying that it’s surprising that Oxy is FDA approved because it can and does kill so many people? I would argue that the reason it kills more people than heroine and cocaine combined is precisely because it’s FDA approved and therefore easier to acquire, not because it’s inherently less safe than other opioids. Or is the argument something else?
I think they are just facts and you are trying to read too much context/specificity into it.
But I suppose I posted it because government sanctioned drug epidemics was the vibe.
