SpaceX secured permission March 7 to provide direct-to-smartphone satellite services at higher power levels to improve connectivity beyond the reach of cell towers across the United States.
There’s no source. I’m just expecting the agency leadership to be absolutely fucking stupid, because that’s the modus operandi of pretty much anyone orangeboi appoints to anything.
As jia_tan said, in theory it should be fine if the hardware is up to scratch.
I could see it becoming an issue for plane traffic, especially if passengers don’t turn on flight mode. Lots of very eager LTE phones switching between towers and sat com. Airplane gear has improved over the years so phone traffic doesn’t annoy it, but it’ll be something to watch for.
Gotta test the theory in practice some time.
lol this is gonna fuck up a bunch of other stuff in adjacent bands, isn’t it
I don’t think so? There should be enough spacing currently. Source?

Oh, you’re going on about politics. Right should have figured

If they use a really narrow and precise band on the satellites then maybe not too much? After all they are within the usual LTE bands.
