Special counsel Jack Smith took a meeting with attorneys representing former President Donald Trump earlier this year and reportedly sat in stone-cold silence while they pleaded with him not to indict their client.
Politico reports that ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl’s new book on Trump’s post-presidential life claims that Trump lawyers Trump attorneys Todd Blanche and John Lauro met with Smith’s team over the summer and gave them a list of reasons why charging Trump with crimes related to his efforts to illegally remain in power would be a mistake.
According to Karl, Smith sat through through the presentation without saying a word.
Yea, sadly. In the eyes of his followers and many fence sitters the fact that he’s being indicted for things “everyone does” (not actually true but that is the perception) confirms his rhetoric.
Stuff like Menendez, Hunter’s nepotism and Pelosi’s husband being an investment banker doesn’t help fight the perception that everyone on the hill is dirty as hell. In the minds of many an uninformed voter one might as well vote for the guy who is straight up about being a dick. At least he’s honest about something.
The reality, of course, is that while corruption really is an issue with both sides of the aisle there are no Republicans who don’t have self-enrichment as their primary ideology.
