This is an accountability post. I’ve decided it’s time to give up the smokes so I have a plan set. I’ve joined My fitness pal because I don’t want to substitute smokes for food, nicotine patches, vapes etc. Im incorporating more exercise as a distraction. This is an experiment. 10 smokes a day for a week. 9 the week after. 8 the week after etc. I should be smoke free in 10 weeks or in jail because I’ve killed someone. I can do this because I am strong and stubborn.

So the new area I live in is kind of a rich/yuppy area and it’s such a contrast to where I’ve lived for all of my life. I used to live in a bit of a ghetto of sorts (by Melbourne standards, anyway), and all I can notice is just how different life is on the flip side. Even the buses are better around here. Despite the fact they barely even get used since half the neighbourhood has super nice Mercedes, BMWs, etc, the frequency is double-triple of my old bus route

I mean, I guess I should just shut up and enjoy it, but it’s so weird living in such a nice area

We’ve hired a Camry for our upcoming US trip, so I just went down to the Toyota dealership with our 3 large suitcases to see if they fit in the boot. And they do! I’m actually really impressed with the boot size.

Look at Mr Moneybags over here who can afford broccolini!

No but that’s a tasty, hearty and most importantly easy breakfast. I am pondering what to do with my tinned cod liver and apparently it goes nicely in egg salad.

Worse things have been impulse bought for $2.80.

Broccolini is the shiznits though, even if I’m still salty that they can charge more for it than its parents (broccoli and kai lan).

Shit, now I have a craving for broccolini …

I’ve gone down a rabbit hole trying to find how one can grow them in a home garden and the seeds are definitely not as readily available… I’m tempted to splurge on this packet here and distribute it to various friends and see if by our gardening powers combined we can break the retail stronghold on outrageous broccolini prices.

I’m on broccoli’s side. I look at broccolini and think you poor skinny, limp substitute but broccoli is like lush and I look for the purple bits. Plus when you cook broccoli right magic happens in your mouth.

I’ve recently started listening to audio books. It’s helped with motivation to do things like going for a walk or doing housework, because I can now associate those tasks with looking forward to hearing the next part of the story. Stripping the bed and laundry, here I come without a scowl.

Happy to give most things a go, expand my genres! General fiction, softer sci fi, crime mysteries, dystopian, literary, pop science and history are all things I’ve read on paper. Not really into sports or pulp romance, but other than that willing to try things.

Strong strong recommendation for Project Hail Mary from Andy Weir if you haven’t already read it. It is softer sci-fi, wouldn’t want to spoil it too much. Production of the audiobook is very good.
Zero Day Code - John Birmingham is a lot of fun. Dystopian trilogy and one of my favourites of the genre. Widespread EMP style collapse as it happens

Having successfully concluded both breakfast and lunch, may I now present for the delight of the DT:

    Afternoon tea

Image: One kiwi fruit, expertly sliced into two symmetrical halves. Presented with a contrasting red combination knife and spoon, artfully placed on a carfully folded square kitchen napkin, adorned with the label designating the New Zealand origins of the fruit. The placement of the red utensil, green kiwi fruit, and white napkin pleasingly mirror the colours and arrangement shown on the kiwi fruit label.

I have woken again. Not fully hungover after a second sleep, just a bit sore because I haven’t danced like that in a while.

I looked back at my posts last night, and I apologise 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

For Horrors fans, “Talk to Me” will tick all the boxes. A paranormal/ghost 👻type story.

    VERY creepy

shockingly good practical FX make up

    Believable characters

    Brutal

Never goes cheesy in the third act

Includes a WTF scene (always enjoyable)

    9/10

Correct. It would be my cup of tea. You know me :) It’s on my to watch list. It’s a A24 movie and the few A24 movies I’ve seen has been pretty good

9/10 is very high ranking though. If/when I get the chance to watch it, I can tell you my thoughts, if anyone is interested

You must share them here for us all! I don’t like horror usually but I loved shit like Parasite where it turned into that and, of course, I’ve liked A24’s stuff so far as well. I’ll be on the lookout for more reviews.

I do love me some (read a lot) of horror movies. Haven’t seen any that’s stand out in a long time and I’m not a fan of the type like Get Out etc. My last fav would have to be Train to Busan but that’s sad, because that was long ago. I’ve seen many horrors since but nothing to really chat about excitedly, if that makes sense

We are A24 crew here as well. Reading your other comments I think we appreciate different aspects of the horror genre. You will probably rate it lower than I did. Train to Busan was very good but I wouldn’t call it a scary movie.

Hereditary is probably top 3 all time scariest movies for me. So that’s the sort of headspace I’m coming from.

Yeah I’ve watched all types of horror but you’re right we do enjoy different horror. I watched hereditary and thought it was alright. Personally wouldn’t rate it very high. And yeah train to Busan wasn’t scary but it is loosely classified as horror. So I use the terminology on it. Can’t remember the last time I was scary by any horror tbh. Maybe when I was a kid

Speaking of spooky, this local house looks like the top 2/3 of the Amtyville house.

Image is of a house with a blue car parked out front, some tall yukkas are in the front with a tall grey fence. House is as described. There are power lines and tram tracks in the foreground.

Trains still being fucked from a trespasser at 4:30pm is just peak Melbourne. Fuck sky rail. We need electric fences and we need ‘em now!

Electric fences wouldn’t help, they just walk from the station. What we need is better mental health services, but as long as people say they want better services but actually vote for tax cuts that’s not going to happen.

And it’s the absolute worst when it happens in the city because it fucks up every single line (except Stony point ig). Not even the vlines are safe
