I’d probably be ok with a subscription even though I’m not a fan, but I just can’t buy it because it relies on another spyware, Google Play Services, which I don’t have on my phone
Objectively, ads are not spyware, thats a fact.
Objectively, Google is not a spyware either, thats a fact regardless of your opinion.
Every instance has their own servers, right now lemmy.world is super slow, earlier they disabled comments to mitigate an attack. Sync relies on your instance being reachable to work.
Bummed out they’re injecting ads into lemmy :/
Not only ads but tracking and spyware too. I got asked to consent for a shit ton of thrid party cookies seconds after i opened it for the frist time …
Perhaps Jerboa is best for now, until Boost comes along
There’s probably going to be an ad free mod if you are inclined to go and find it in the near future/medium-term.
How a about no spyware third party trackers? I didn’t protest against Reddit to lose my privacy to Sync.

Bro the GDPR consent reads like spyware. And the ads?!
It’s proprietary software; what did you expect? That shit will always betray you sooner or later, almost by definition.
I would have liked to think folks on-the-ball enough to ditch Reddit for Lemmy would know better, but nope!
How do you propose the dev gets paid for his work?
By offering a paid version. Not by using spyware.

Well, don’t use the word if you don’t know what it means. Sure, ads by its nature are not ads. But ads that track you are spyware.
Google Play Services are a spyware, they track so many things about you.
I don’t understand what the rest of your comment refers to.
Your instance being reachable isn’t anything to do with the sync dev tho. He doesn’t pay to keep my instance up.
