The more I read the Bible (having read multiple versions) as a teen the more I realized that people who claim to walk as Christ did, in fact do not walk as Christ did. There are exceptions, such as the pastor who I met volunteering at a soup kitchen, but a vast majority only prove my point.

Christ walked among sinners, the down and destitute, tax collectors, sex workers and the “unclean”. The same people these self proclaimed men and women of Christ will rebuke and spit on.

I always think back to that scene from Castlevania between the Bishop and the Demon: “my life’s work is in his name!” “Your life’s work. Makes him puke.”

Yea I feel like some of the bots across multiple instances need to be toned back. Right now several of them, including lemmit.bot are just scraping anything that matches their search criteria and puking it out which leads to actual member posts being buried under the inundation of articles and headlines.

Yea I just personally blocked the lemmit bot which made ml and lemmit much more… “Bearable”. Hexbear tho? I canned that instance after a few trips into it, some may find it bearable but it’s not for me. It toes a very fine line that I just don’t feel comfortable with, but hey, you do you.

If anything, if an instance is just 75% bot posting, I just silence it, especially a majority of the politic instances… I don’t need a bot spewing doom and gloom into my feeds at mach fuck.

For X links… I guess ban the links if you feel the need but maybe allow for screenshots of X posts since a lot of companies and emergency services use X for posting realtime information that doesn’t get posted elsewhere.

Kinda crazy when they subvert expectations like that sometimes and actually prove themselves as a journalist.

You’d think a journalist for Teen Vogue or Cosmopolitan would be a hack and then all of a sudden they drop some in-depth, well written op-ed that makes you go “what? How?..”

Like I said elsewhere, I’ve actually got a couple copies of Rolling Stone from the opening weeks/months of the Iraq Invasion (their somewhere in my personal library) and the comparison to issues from before the war is staggering. Their journalists were actually really good and when they weren’t being told to write a bunch of gobbledygook about a has-been one hit wonder, they were really capable journalists.

Rolling Stone was probably the only source of actual journalism during the Iraq Invasion for a time.

Industrial diamonds have always been on the cheap and that industry is far removed from the jewelry/gem industry, in fact a large majority of diamonds that are mined aren’t gem grade, they’re industrial grade. It’s been growing and advancing despite the jewelry/gem market starting to fall.

Ive actually been experimenting with using aquatic snails like nerites, ramshorns and pond/bladder snails to help control algae and detritus buildup in hydroponics.

So far pond/bladder snails have proven to be ineffective as they tend to feed on the plant roots as much as anything else but ramshorns have proven pretty successful.

That said, before multiplayer was centralised, you checked the server pingtime before joining the server.

Scrolling through servers on CS:Source trying to find one that wasn’t pinging harder than my anxiety… Those were the days.

There’s still a way to do it but it’s convoluted compared to if they’d just add a damn resource monitor into the game itself.

If you still care about figuring out your ping: this comment on reddit from a year ago tells you how to find your games server IP, from there you can just fire up command prompt and hit with ping -n 100 <IP/Adress> This should return your ping and packet loss with the server.

You would be correct. You could use it as a tool to say, help look at the patient history and help find past/present drug prescriptions and how they’ve been charted for the patient, saving a doctor or pharmacist time but ultimately that still needs to be a decision made by an actual doctor and or pharmacist.

Fraud detection is a task that it can do well at with machine learning using pattern recognition. An AI can chew through a massive data pool and find minor discrepancies in real time, much quicker than a human can and it can do so 24/7. In the case of say, credit card fraud, the AI will look at your historical data and see that all your in-person purchases for the last 6+ months have been within a certain area then it sees that your CC has been used 1700 miles away, when you just used it 6 hours prior. AI goes “yea it’s impossible for them to travel 1700 miles in 6 hours.” Then flags the data as suspicious for someone to review and it did all of this in a matter of seconds to minutes instead of the several hours it would take a person to do, assuming they even caught the discrepancy in the first place. That said it’s not always 100% accurate, that’s why I said “as a tool” not a replacement.

Hence why I say “partly why”. Yes probably more than half of the hate is because of all the generative AI slop that’s been puked out onto the internet with wreckless abandon but there’s also those that have to deal with the piss poor implementation of AI customer service replacements that just sit there and talk in a circle whilr you’re just trying to get your ISP to send out a technician to fix the landline that your hit with a weedwacker (took 45 minutes to finally get the damn thing to connect me with a service rep.)

China Syndrome was a term coined in a 1971 article ‘Thoughts on Nuclear Plumbing’ by a former Manhattan Project scientist named Ralph Lapp. Essentially it’s a hypothetical sequence of events following the meltdown of a nuclear reactor, in which the core melts through its containment structure and deep into the earth “straight down to China”. Something that has been proven either impossible or improbable multiple times but people still hold on to the fear that it is possible and in doing so will constantly rebuke the idea of welcoming nuclear energy. Same concept applies to AI in a way. People only see it as a tool for spam, misinformation, our impending doom, etc and in doing so fail to see how, if handled correctly and professionally, it could become a very useful tool. Not a replacement, but a tool.

A WELL TRAINED AI can be a very useful tool. However the AI models that corporations want to use aren’t exactly what I’d call “well trained” because that costs money. So they figure “we’ll just let it learn by doing. Who cares if people get hurt in the meantime. We’ll just blame the devs for it being bad.”

Edit: to add this is partly why AI gets a bad rap from folks on the outside looking it. Corporations institute barebones, born yesterday AI models that don’t know their ass from their elbow because they can’t be bothered to pay the devs to actually train them but when shit goes south they turn around and blame the devs for a bad product instead of admitting they cut corners. It’s China Syndrome but instead of nuclear reactors it’s AI.
