  • I don’t like forced in-person work unless it’s just a quarterly on-site where they fly us in and pay for accommodations. I agree that Texas is fucked until they fix their abortion laws, however it is worth mentioning that Austin is a liberal city and does not function the same way as the rest of Texas in many regards. It is becoming a tech hub and would be cool if my company relocated there, as long as they flew me in quarterly and didn’t expect anything more than that. Really great BBQ. They do have a bad homeless problem though.

  • I was about to write back that we are not far off the advances to make these affordable and then did a google search and found that you can get a distilled unit on Amazon for $180 that is capable of making a gallon in 5 hours for about $.45 worth of electricity. That is far less than what it costs to buy distilled water at the store, which is around $1 a gallon. If you look at this from a break-even analysis, you technically start to reap the rewards of ownership after about 800 uses since the first 400 uses basically cost you $1.45 per gallon, then the next 400 costs you $.45 per gallon, but you are recouping that extra cost over the $1 retail price, so by the 800th use, you are getting water at less than half the price of the store.

  • Pearl Harbor happened 82 years ago. That’s almost a lifetime. If you read up on that, it’s also pretty messed up to joke about. Been there. It’s pretty significant/solemn. On the USS Arizona alone over 1,100 people died. They did not pull the bodies from the wreck and built a memorial on top of it. I really wouldn’t joke about that one either.

9/11 happened in many people’s lifetimes and people still live with the damage. My brother in-law saw the first plane hit in person and has that memory seared into his head. I saw the coverage of people jumping to their deaths because they didn’t want to burn to death. I’d highly recommend the movie Reign Over Me. It’s probably the best things Adam Sandler ever did.

The same people that make fun of 9/11 want people to support Palestinians. It’s a strange dichotomy.

I was a sophomore in high school when it happened. I live in the area and know people that lost siblings who had children that couldn’t understand why their father didn’t come home. Had multiple of my own siblings in the city that we couldn’t get in contact with for a long time and one that had lunch plans at the towers. Had a friend of a relative lose both his parents on one of the planes. One of my previous bosses worked in the towers and got out after the first plane hit. He lost friends. This was a real event that hurt a lot of people. I still can chuckle at the memes slightly, but it’s weird that there are people who are in there 20’s and don’t take it seriously at all.
