    The reason is because we are used to looking at ourselves mirrored.

    So when we see ourselves in pictures the normal way, something looks off since we aren’t used to it and think we look awful.

    The thing is that the people around us are used to seeing us the normal way. So to them the mirrored version looks off.

      @Honytawk @MrLovenstein My theory is that smartphone cameras are wide angle, so our features get distorted in comparison to what we see with our eyes. A normal lens for 35mm film is 50mm, and most phone cameras are around 24mm (35mm equivalent)
