Faust was just such a Chad that the deal didn’t take - he asks Mephistopheles to make him so happy that he doesn’t want to strive for more, but then doesn’t allow himself to be satisfied. Haven’t read it since college, but IIRC much of the story is about exactly that kind of rugged individualism sigma grindset shit that so many guys worship.
