During a COVID lockdown I was watching a 24 hr enduro sim race, specifically one team on YT. It was the night time portion and a Canadian was on shift while European drivers got sleep. He was super chill, driving amazing, and interacting with the chat out of boredom. So I asked him to say something while my disinterested wife was phone scrolling with nothing better to do…

TV: “Hi <wife’s name>! I know you’re not into it, but thanks for watching from Australia!”

wife looks up “Wtat the fuck?”

Me: “Yeah I asked him to say that.”

Wife: “That’s so weird. Tell him hi back.”

This is why I hate watching streamers.

They are playing the game, and constantly breaking the action to talk about shoutouts that adds zero to the experience

Some people get really offended when their sub or donation doesn’t get mentioned. I go so far as to re-sub when the streamer is offline to try and avoid it at all costs. Parasocial relationships are weird, man.

Yep, the best streams I have watched was the streamer spoke to the chat as if it was a single person, asking for advice or hints on how to continue.

DougDoug, while a bit unhinged, seems to always try to include the community into every stream

As long as it isn’t just shoutout after shoutout after shoutout or similar dumb crap that doesn’t add any real content

Once i had a sub ready while the streamer was offline, i got called rude by someone else who was in the chat for some reason.

Btw you can turn of to send the notification in the settings.

Yeah, this is like my personal hell, to have a streamer do/play something that I’m genuinely interested in, but also, they’re a streamer.

You should check out APlatypus on Twitch. He went so deep into that hole of constantly shouting out and breaking action, that his stream became a comical bloat of videos and songs and meme clips playing on top of each other. I love the guy’s personality and humour, but it’s unwatchable after the first few laughs.
