This overhaul is the beginning steps of revamping the tutorials, and, hopefully, being much more beginner friendly. If you like space sims, this is one of the best times to give X4 a shot!

I would argue, a lot of the systems don’t take a TON to learn, but, they take a TON of time to get to some of them. It’s definitely not a “sit and play for 20 minutes” game.

Along with the tutorial upgrades comes some much needed graphical overhauls as well. Great game, great community, and lastly a small, fantastic dev team that’s been supporting the game for years.

Interesting stuff, I’ve been aware of the X series but never tried it as I’ve heard mixed things. If they’re trying to clean up the onboarding for new players now much be the time to give it a try assuming the price is right

My biggest thing personally is the UI. Which is also getting a facelift. It’s not super intuitive. I think the overhauled tutorials, along with some UI changes are going to make this game exponentially more accessible.

I’m not a X4 vet either. I have a couple hundred hours. Which, the X4 vets will have saves with hundreds or thousands of hours. But, I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. I’m not sure what the price is. I bought it on sale about a year ago. Though, even if I spent $70(which it is not) I definitely have gotten enough enjoyment to justify that! I think it goes on sale fairly regularly though if the price is a bit too much for you now!

It’s a janky game for sure, but in a charming way. I love it. You get used to all the oddities and they fade into the background. And there is a pretty solid modding community too… lots of mods to help with things you might not like about the game.

Would you recommend just getting the base game, or is it worth getting the Community of Planets Edition with the DLCs included? Do they add much to the game?

The DLC’s add a ton to the game. New storylines, new sectors (more space), new ships and buildings, new mechanics (in some), etc.

Do I think you need them all at the start? Probably not? I don’t know how much things cost at this point since I’ve gotten all the DLC’s when they came out since I got the game so it’s hard for me to say whether it’s “worth it” price wise. But just from a content and fun standpoint? They add a LOT to the game and are worth having for sure.

IMHO, the Split ships are the ones I prefer flying generally, so I would recommend that DLC if nothing else. But every faction has one or two ships that are best in class, it’s balanced nicely that way. I just know that if I had to start the game from scratch without Split ships, I would be sad. :-D

Awesome. I can only recommend everyone to check out the game, if you’re into space games at all. I have at least 400h in and the game only gets better and better.

This game scratches an itch for me that very few games do. Starting from nothing but a single scout ship and building and empire with fleets of capital ships and miners and traders… and not just owning stations, but building them module by module. There are so many different ways to play this game, from pirate lord to corporate shill to business mogul. You can follow one of the many story lines or strike out on your own from day one. sigh I really enjoy this game.

And I thought they were done updating it two updates and one DLC ago. Yet here we are with more improvements. How lucky are we?!!
