Republicans use “Democrat” as an adjective instead of “Democratic” basically to say that the party isn’t actually democratic.
Of course, they’re not wrong on that, but they also aren’t democratic.
The people complaining about this are the same people who will make fun of you for calling the CPC the CPC instead of the CCP.

I just started noticing it being called a slur like a week ago. They’ve been using it as an indicator that you’re a secret double Russian for a little while now
Just call them Demonrats and be done with it.
I think the term originally came from a Republican-funded focus group that found that audiences respond more negatively to “democrat party” than “democratic party.” I avoid using it myself because it comes off as in-group signaling for chuds.

They want people to conflate the program of their bourgeois party with actual democracy.
Republicans use “Democrat” as an adjective. That’s the “slur”. It’s more like a dogwhistle or ingroup speech than anything. Kind of like how sometimes chuds here give themselves away by saying “straight white male” instead of “cishet white dude”

“The <noun> Party” is the party comprised of <nouns>. The “Carpenter Party” means the party comprised of carpenters. The “Plumber party” means the party comprised of plumbers.
“The Democratic Party” is the party that values the principals of Democracy.
“The Democrat Party” is the party comprised of Democrats.
Denouncing the Democratic Party means denouncing the principals of Democracy. Denouncing the Democrat party means denouncing the people who call themselves Democrats.
I thought this post was about reddit getting mad that the word “Democrat” was used at all to describe a member of the Democratic Party, and I was making the point that of course they do, no one’s gonna call a member of the Democratic Party a “Democratic.” But people explained what this post was about below.

Some of the things that are great about it:
- You can just substitute “elephant” for “donkey” to emphasize that literally the only difference is branding.
- No need to capitalize it even if you’re being grammatically correct, because it’s not a proper noun.
- They chose their stupid mascot; now they can live with it.

I wish there was a decent one for the Republican party, since there have been many cool types of republicans throughout history and the US one sucks.
