Switch 2 is rumoured for 2024, but what could be launch titles? Metroid prime 4 would be a candidate, but might not a be a system seller.

A new 3d Mario could be a possibility, given wonder is a 2.5d and another team might be working on something.

Zelda - we’ve just had totk released so that seems out.

Mario kart 9 could be a system seller.

Splatoon 3 was only recently released.

What else could be lined up for a launch window, assuming a 2024 release? Maybe 2024 is less plausible 🤔

In keeping with Nintendo naming conventions it with be the “switch u” or more likely “switcheroo” It will be a VR based system that seems like an add on peripheral for the switch, but is actually a new system that nobody buys due to confusion and lack of titles.

I have doubts about the VR thing. Since VR in general doesn’t seem to be healthy or safe for kids under 13. The lowest age recommendation for a VR headset is 12 and that’s just Sony. I highly doubt Nintendo is going to put their brand in the line for a gimmick as weak as VR is. Besides Nintendo gimmicks are about unique innovation. Not rehashing an already dying gimmick.

A top-down Zelda could be in the cards. Perhaps a Links Awakening style remake of the Oracle games or Minish Cap

Much smaller in scope than TotK and therefore much faster and cheaper to develop, especially if they just re-use the LA engine.

It was years after the Switch came out that I finally decided to get one, and honestly the one game that combined me to get it was Link’s Awakening. I love that game so much!

Over the years, I ended up spending the most time playing Animal Crossing. I beat Mario Odyssey and it was nice. I really could not get into Breath of the Wild at all, or the sequel.

Yep, their Zelda release strategy is to release a remake during long development cycles for new titles. I see this as virtually guaranteed.

Hopefully a new Animal Crossing game! I started ACNH last month and it was my first time with the franchise. I’m already taking a time off because I was too obsessed but the game was so polished and well done that I’m really excited for the next. Also considering they have been busy with something since November 2021, I don’t think it is unlikely they are already working in the new game.

And bring back touch screen inventory management. Beyond me why they didn’t take advantage of their own console’s features when they’d already done that in all past possible games.

If you look at the Switch titles:

1-2-Switch - Some game to show off new features.
    Just Dance 2017
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Cross gen game.
    Skylanders: Imaginators - Merch game.
    Super Bomberman R
    I Am Setsuna
    Tokyo RPG Factory
Snipperclips - Another new feature game.
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - Shovelware
Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment - Shovelware
    Fast RMX

I could see either a new Mario game launching on the Switch and Switch 2, maybe a Metroid game instead. Zelda will be too old and played out by then, but then Zelda fans love buying the same game over and over.

Ported from another platform with little to no effort?

It’s the literal definition of shovelware.

The Switch was literally the last of 11 platforms it launched on.

It’s worth noting, I think, that the definition of shovelware has slipped somewhat since it was coined like thirty years ago, and I think this is leading to you and niisyth talking past each other. Shovel Knight for Switch was maybe shovelware by the original definition, which was “shovel a bunch of old software onto a CD and resell it,” but by the Wii era people were using it to refer to software that is just bad, but exists to trick people into buying it by promising to be more full-featured than it actually is. The Wii had so many titles like this that it seemed like they were “shoveling” shit directly onto store shelves and calling it games. In this new definition, it refers to titles like My Horse and Me or Imagine Party Babyz. So if they are thinking of the newer usage, it sounds like you’re insulting Shovel Knight’s quality as a game.

Also, by your definition, Skyrim and Witcher 3 are also Shovelware.

Which, I want you to think hard about for maybe 1 min.

Regarding Zelda, I would expected them to release an upgraded version of totk, since they often seem to release at least one Zelda game for two generations; TP was on GameCube and Wii, BotW was on Wii-U and Switch. Alternatively, a (super-expensive) 2-pack game with BotW+TotK including DLC?

My money’s on an Animal Crossing, possibly not immediately on release but close to it nonetheless. New Horizons had just too much success for the company not trying to ride the wave, and they have so much room to improve on the mechanics and the variety of the setting.

Slow news day. Plus we know from the Switch launch they don’t feel compelled to have a lot of games ready. It was breath of the wild, your typical launch party game and … nothing memorable.

    New Super Mario,
Pokemon Stone Gray and Muted Olive,
    Zelda the Minishcap remake.

VR mount headset will be the gimmick.

Name will be “Reality Switch” for VR and high resolution combined.

It would surprise me if Nintendo got into VR setting a lot of VR headsets are recommended for kids under 13. There is a lot of safety and health risks. Nintendo won’t likely put their kid friendly brand name on the line for a VR gimmick.

I agree with you about a 3D Mario: it’s absolutely not incompatible with the release of Wonder. Also, it would be a good candidate to showcase the graphics of the new console, without taking much risks.

Mario Kart/Splatoon/Smash bros. They need a multiplayer game. For Mario Kart and Smash Bros, they have the same (fist world) problem: the switch versions have so much content that it’s difficult to hit harder. And it’s not nice of me, but I feel like they wouldn’t mind milking the Splatoon players.

Animal crossing. The license gained so much new fans with AC:NH, it would be suprising if they don’t try to take advantage of this new popularity.

Apparently the main thing that’s been holding Monolith back from remastering X has been trouble updating the engine for Switch. More powerful hardware might enable it… let’s hope.

With their dev cycle and work culture I don’t think we’re getting a launch Xenoblade though, or even anything.
