I like to consider AEW more like UFC. Whereas Perry is likely getting this match because of nepotism and pinning Danielson at Anarchy in the Arena. Hangman/Swerve won’t necessarily move them up any higher for a World title shot. Darby technically has next at Grand Slam but after that no one is a clear cut contender.

Can I just say, The Conglomeration is the biggest lump of guys they have no place for on the card since The Union, or The Job Squad. Honestly surprised Danhousen isn’t part of it.
Mid card guys need friends or they get outnumbered
Yes and no. It’s a fairly functional unit as it does serve a couple purposes.
It allows Ishii to be plugged into stories/promos without fear of language barrier.
It gives Mark Briscoe some buddies to bounce his energy off of while Copeland and Kingston recover from injury.
OC needs friends to motivate his character, it’s been made pretty clear that he only gives his all when something is actually on the line, and without a title to defend, the next best thing is friends.
Granted, some of the members are just kind of “there” but I feel like that’s where the name “Conglomeration” comes from.
Even the Job Squad served a purpose, as jobbing was literally their gimmick. “Get pinned, get payed.”
