Sometimes I wonder if I’m a product of my time. I grew up at a time when WWF had 1 weekly hour of TV that mattered. 45 minutes of that show were established talent squashing jobbers.

Then you’d get a final segment where Hogan comes out and usually has a non-finish to the match, with a strong finish for Hogan beating the bad guy.

Then the 90s happened, and we’d still get 60 minutes a week, except now they were trying to establish a lower midcard with non-steroid guys. Eventually that led to them taking Hogans spot when he left.

So in the 80s, “Who’s your favorite wrestler?” “HOGAN!” I cannot remember a single person besides myself that liked Piper and Savage more than Hogan.

Then in the 90s, if you thought the whole twilight fangirling was pathetic (team jacob vs team edward…thanks google), they got the blueprint from WWF. Are you team Bret, or team Shawn? There was no viable third answer.

    Now? Who’s your favorite wrestler?

hears thousands of people all screaming different names

And I don’t even have a favorite now. It seems weird to me to pick a favorite in 2024. I was team Shawn btw.

For us when we were kids, it was definitely Hogan (though I’m still a Piper guy to this day *fist bump), but the adults that I watched wrestling with swore by Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes, so it was fairly diverse back then, too, despite the biggest spotlight being on Hogan.
