    I mean, we are talking about the Chief of engineering.

    Level 1-2 diagnostics should already have been done by lower ranks.

    He’s probably the only one allowed to run level 3.

        If I had to guess (and I am) they probably look something like:

        Level 1 diagnostic: reboot it

        Level 2 diagnostic: persussive maintenance (looked down upon by Starfleet)

        Level 3 diagnostic: actually check logs and reference documentation for any error messages present

    I think my favorite part about the TNG universe is not having to hear AI propaganda from every direction.

    Why even bother with the diagnostics? Just reverse the polarity. 7/11 times that fixes the damn problem, and when it doesn’t, then run the diagnostics and then go crawl in some Jeffries tubes for the rest of the episode.
