    Back in say …2006-7…? I remember Bush was still president. Systems Boom video had just been released around the time, I was trying to find a song I kept hearing on the radio and having absolutely zero luck at it, for, like, weeeeks. In frustration I went to Google (which had been my chosen search provider from 99-2019) and typed in “song that goes (paraphrasing, Idr the actual) nah nah na badum ba” and google fucking spat out the song top of the page.

    Blew my fucking mind.

    That was, and probably still is, the pinnacle of search, to me. And apparently ~2008 was when Google peaked as well. I was diehard google for a good decade afterwards, until the advertising and enshittifaction became too much for me, which was about a year before the pandemic started. RIP. And STAY dead you evil motherfucker.

    That’s how good search CAN be so you younger folks know exactly what we lost.

    And no, idr what song it was, that wasn’t the important part of the story or worth remembering.
