I hung a row of those to display my wife’s vintage lunchbox collection.
Nice use case
Hey, my wife has a vintage lunchbox collection hiding in boxes in the attic.
I think I may copy this project for our kitchen too. We have some shit wallpaper trim in a similar area that need redoing at the same time
Thanks for sharing!
Why tip-down instead of handle-down?
Don’t ask about the toilet paper roll…
The patent for the toilet paper roll holder has it the correct way round. But thats too exicing
For the same reason you carry anything tip down.
Can’t tell if it’s the case in this photo, but mine hangs over my work area so handle down was definitely the safer option…
…also more natural to grab
My partner flipped them the other way around, with the handles on the bottom. I basically accept that she’s smarter than me and defer to her in such matters. 😆
Somehow, I have learned this same lesson dozens of times. She has incredible restraint when it comes to saying “I told you so”
Aestheticslly they’d look nice alternating up and down as compromise.
Living dangerous, I see
Life on the edge.
Just have to grab them reeeeaaally carefully
Can’t tell if this is about knives or penises
This has been waiting months, and I installed it today to avoid a more difficult and important project. 😉
Stop calling me out.
This is the way
Mods: None of these look dull at all!
This whole setup is metal!
When placing a knife on a magnetic holder, you lead with the spine then rotate until the flat hits the holder. The edge apex never touches the holder. It won’t dull your knives if you don’t slam the apex into it.
Sharpened metal
Dull men can enjoy sharp tools
Good timing, I just did the same! I use to have a metal one which held the knives better but went with wood as it’s quieter and kinder to the knives.
That’s fantastic! I love wood, but it doesn’t match the overall aesthetic of our kitchen. I’m a bit jealous of your knife holder actually!
I know how magnets work and Ive never seen a knife fall off one of these but they still give me low grade anxiety.
Them Final Destination films ruined me.
Interesting when I had something like that I had the pointy bit up.
Same, easier to get them off of it that way.
Yea, seems like if you drop it you will ruin your knife.
I do handle down. Why have u gone handle up?
I did it point down so if I grabbed it and it slipped that I wouldn’t end up cut. My partner flipped them though and they’ll be handle down from now on.
But now if your grip slips or something happens and they fall, they fall point down.
I guess ur partner knows whats right. But honestly whats the difference?
Keeping the weight to the bottom makes more sense, besides being way less awkward to grab.
And with point-down, when you grab a handle, your hand isn’t underneath a bunch of knife blades.
Well, my thinking was that I am very clumsy, and if the knife slips out of my fingers when the edge is up that I might slice my hand open. But possibly it is more natural and easy to grab from the bottom and that will more than outweigh any extra safety from having the blade pointed down.
U didnt account for the possibility of knocking it off the rack and impaling somthing below it etc.
Its a real tough one this
Below the rack should be the counter. Not a long fall. Not like it’s mounted over the baby’s crib or something.
Not very dull 😒
Edit guys it’s a knife pun.
I appreciate your pun.
I have a wooden magnetic holder because I’m worried a metal one will chip my knives.
I have the same metal knife holder (probably – I bet it’s this one) and it hasn’t damaged my knives yet. I do try to put them on angled slightly spine-first, but I don’t think it makes that much difference.
I was just going to ask about that.
Yeah you did!
Those aren’t Globals, but they’re patterned after the Global style. What’s the brand?
Oh wow thought they were globals - pretty blatant rip off. I love the global design - other knives feel dirty after using these types of knives with no wood / fastners. It will trigger many of you to hear this, but I will sometimes place my globals on a knife rack in my dishwasher. I have the professionally sharpened once a year and hone them before each use and the dishwasher really doesn’t seem to affect them that much.
I like my Victorinox Fibrox knives for the same reasons (no crevices/pourous handles for germs to hide in and dishwasher-safe).
We have a full set of Globals, acquired individually over the years. They’re solid knives, and better than any other big brand I’ve tried. My favorite kitchen knives, though, by far, are Miyabi. I have only two, but they’re incredible. I think I’d have to get on some waiting list for a Japanese knife maker who makes each knife by hand to get anything better.
That said, I can beat up my Globals and always bring them back to true. I’m afraid of working the Miyabis too hard lest I do something horrible to the edge.
Looks like it could be the IKEA 365+ set.
Yes these are from Ikea! I have mixed feelings about Ikea in general, but I liked the look of these.
Ooof. Well, you saved a bunch of money getting the IKEA version, that’s for sure!
Knives and holder both look incredible.
That’s neat!
You only have three knives?
(You can’t see it, but I’m making my Smug Face.)
Haha. I promise that there are more but they were in the dishwasher. I was too excited to wait for the complete set to make a photo. 😅
Sharp knives in dishwasher? gasp
