NAL, but done a lot of work with software licensing. If the source and model are all licensed under MIT, then Deepseek has allowed anyone else to copy, sell, etc. the software. But that doesn’t stop Deepseek being the intellectual property of its creators (and thus its ‘import’ prohibited per the wording of the bill).
Business idea: contact a European friend who likes AI to keep a server running for a deep seek fork repository. The fork? The read me file has a picture of a cat that’s not in the AI technology coming out of China. So you’re importing original, German AI instead of tech coming out of the PRC. The weights are, of course, the L1 / B3 weights that have been modified by a single digit. If there’s a deep seek fork you’re interested, you can have an automated system for requesting a fork a German Seek that includes it.
