Thanks, I intend to do that but wanted to use Proton Pass - it has its own alias service. Not sure if that would allow me to move my email in the future? Maybe it’s too early in the morning…

Proton Pass only has 10 aliases. Really you want an alias for each and every site. I have over 300. Proton (I believe) uses SimpleLogin which is what I use. I use it in combination with Bitwarden to generate my aliases. I assume Proton Pass supports generating aliases from their app?

Really you’re going to have to pay if you want to use aliases. I tried to get away with addy.io which has unlimited for free but the big caveat is they don’t let you send emails from your aliases (unless you pay). SimpleLogin is open source so you could host it yourself. Hosting email isn’t always that simple though.

They have 3 types of aliases:

        • the 10 alternative e-mails you mention (where you can choose a full name of it unless it’s already taken)

        • the gmail-trick aliases (where you have your “login_name**+**some_word” in the address)

        • the random-generated (which I think is the same thing you use? They are unlimited: https://proton.me/pass/aliases )

I honestly hope I won’t have to migrate to another e-mail provider again…

Actually, after writing all of the above, I found a summary link https://proton.me/support/addresses-and-aliases

Ah yes Proton Pass has unlimited. I was only looking at their free tier.

Yes when I generate an alias in Bitwarden it will create aliases based on the name entry on those credentials.

So for example.com it creates [email protected]

          xhwy being randomly generated.
