The news was already posted here last week, but I found this great technical explanation of the flaw. Long story short: Apple is using bad cryptography. They got alerted by researchers back in 2019 but didn’t fix it.

    We need a p2p WiFi and Bluetooth network.

    The only thing we have currently is Briar with is good but limited to android. Apple needs to allow third party apps so we can get Briar on IOS.

      P2P WiFi is /basically/ what you would have if a bunch of people started setting up I2P meshnets with local radio broadcasting capabilities.

      Problem is that requires the average person to learn what that is and then spend time and money to set up such meshnet nodes.

      Bluetooth is /hilariously/ insecure and easily exploitable, so I would not recommend looping that in as some kind of core principle of a proposed new network paradigm.
