This is my nomination for the screenshot, it comes from the new ED (@[email protected])
First off, the new OP and ED do a lot of revealing of what is to come. I was pretty surprised at how much is shown in the two sequences. The music itself didn’t really blow me away, but I didn’t hate it either.
The festival story, like many sequences in this story, ties together several different plot threads and introduces some new ones. In this episode we have an ongoing confrontation with the Assassin’s Guild, the climate issue, tension between human nations over the priestess. We introduce a potential conflict with the demons in the future, the Laurel Kingdom knowing what kanji are, an upcoming tournament arc, and now this whole deal with the church prying for information. There is a lot going on!
Probably the most surprising thing this whole episode to me was how a ton of characters were lewded in the ED. I mean, have you seen Shiki like this before?
Seeing a lewded Emma was a surprise as well.
The assassin showing up again surprised me. I thought he was not hired to kill Makoto, though he might think that he failed ‘cos Makoto passed the exam, and he wanted to correct that, despite the person who hired him was already out of the picture.
I hadn’t really thought about it, but I would guess it became a matter of pride, both professional and personal. Professional in that he was hired to do something and failed, so he feels like he needs remediate his professional reputation. Personal in that Makoto broke his prized knife, so he went out and got it repaired or another one to use as the weapon of choice to go after Makoto again.
Tbh, I think the more important plot point from this encounter is how unfazed Makoto is by killing and disposing of the assassin bodies. It was a big moment in season 1 when he killed his first hyuman, but I think this is supposed to help us to recognize a way in which Makoto has changed since then.
makoto's personality
and Root’s “do you like demihumans? Or dislike hyumens?”
