Kaiju No.9 was strong. It was able to toy with full-strength Reno and Iharu because it wanted to capture one of them alive. However Kafka as Kaiju No.8 was stronger and what able to fight it off.
The plot conveniently saved Kaiju No.9 though and put Kafka in the path of Hoshina, who thought he was the one who attacked Reno and Iharu so we’ll probably see them fight next episode.
