Hi guys!

So…just that. I’m looking for some recent developments in the GH clones scene…maybe someone made some GH variation that includes venues and characters? It kinda gave the whole vibe to it.

I installed the mods for GHWT that allow me to play a bunch of extra songs, and that’s neat and all, but it plays with an insufferable delay on Linux, way over the limit of what you can adjust/correct in game. It plays at perfect 30/60fps, but it just has intolerable input delay, which forces me to play it on Windows. So…I was wondering if there’s anything newer, with more songs etc. And characters, and venues. And blackjack, and hookers.

Thanks!

https://clonehero.net/ The best I have seen is Clone Hero. I had a good time with it in Windows with drums a few years ago. They are super slow on development though. No characters. No venues that I know of. But there are many songs out there. And it seems to work pretty well. Even did multiplayer over the internet.

They have moved around the song database since I last played but looks like it’s here now. https://rhythmverse.co/

I got my brother, who is not Linux-savvy, set up playing Clone Hero on his Steam Deck while I was thousands of miles away and it played with no input lag basically out of the box on SteamOS. If you’re looking for a good Guitar Hero experience on Linux with lots of custom songs, Clone Hero is for you.

If you’re looking for Guitar Hero with characters, venues, and no input lag on Linux I have nothing to suggest. :/

As far as I know Clone Hero and YARG are the best options going now. They both support guitar/ bass, drums, and keyboard, although only YARG has vocals.

YARG is still in development but I haven’t had any problems with it. There’s also support to download venues, though I haven’t messed with it so I don’t know how well they work yet. I’m also guessing there will eventually be support for characters at some point, but I haven’t hear anything officially. They also release on Linux.

Clone Hero has a full release and the developers are still active. As far as I know there’s no venue support, although some people set the songs’ music videos to play in the background. It also looks like they only release on Windows.

Both of them come with a handful of songs, though you can download a ton more. They use the same files so you can have both pull from the same library if you want. I can’t remember where I found the links anymore, but I have the tracks for all of the Rock Band and Guitar Hero games that had a full band, plus other random songs I got from https://rhythmverse.co/ and https://www.enchor.us/ The songs for the Guitar Hero games that were just guitar and bass are out there too if you don’t care about drums, keyboards, or vocals.

I’m curious about this as well - without the background stuff it feels kinda abstract and lifeless to me.

With clones, You’re not going to get custom characters or custom venues. So get that out of the your head now.

Download clone hero and never look back. Works on Linux (steam deck)

Be grateful that clone hero allows you to play every single guitar hero and rock band song that ever existed in one game.
