FireWire was a great invention, killed by licensing fees and creating new connectors with every upgrade.
The use of an identical master/slave connector and 12V power were forward-thinking too, too bad most portable electronics back then only accepted 5 V. It even had a non-HD but standardized video interface (DV,) way before MHL and eventually USB-C. I would also prefer daisy-chaining to hubs but not all devices had two ports.
Microsoft discontinued support for Firewire with Windows 10, so Linux is now the only mainstream OS to support the standard.

I have a old PC with a FireWire port. I should check if it runs. I don’t have any peripherals to test with however.
